Lakorns has been on a steady decline for years. I wonder why the big companies don't do anything to correct it when they noticed the situation. It's unfortunate, but once you lose viewers the way they do it's hard to get them back.
EXACTLY. You cannot make dramas the way you use to make because those dramas aren’t drawing audiences anymore. But people are still watching dramas… they just aren’t watching lakorn anymore. if the argument is that they can’t match the budgets of k-dramas, then you can make smaller dramas with smaller budgets? It’s just the story has to be interesting, acting has to be decent, directing has to be good. the companies need to innovate, not just make the same type of dramas that you used to make cos people aren’t watching that anymore.
And technically, you can still rely on tropes, you just have to innovate enough so that the drama doesn’t look so template. KBS had a drama recently with families struggling over money and a rich guy/poor girl romance. But what’s the innovation? they make a bag of money the central character of the show. It‘s a black comedy.
