Chapter 3:
Unique Discoveries
“We’re here. Miss vanida, Welcome to Dome Torng.”
“Yes. Its very nice, are they here to introduce themselves to me??” (Pointing)
“Yes…. Or welcome you.” Kasem walk out of the car to the trunk. He notice vanida had already open her door.
“Why is this house so big? They only have 2 daughters, and besides they’re married.”
“Did you forget? Táng sŏng khoon Yaay did not get along well at all.” Kasem was beginning to worry. “Why does it seem as if this girl is an outsider? Everything she does not know.” (Frowns) “Miss vanida, next time let me open your door for you.”
“No. I don’t like it, I’ll just open it.” Vanida tried pulling her luggage from kasems hand. He declines her offer.
“What are you doing?”
“Getting my bag. Give me it.” She figures being nice was not an option, so she tried to snatch it. Again kasem rejected her offer and move it behind him.
“Miss vanida. No. That is not good. If khun Ahdit sees, he will be very mad. Not just him but also Mali.” Quickly she moves her hands to her side. (Her eyes widen. To herself) “OHY! Tasanee, you are not Tasanee anymore! You are Vanida Chapordaporn. Your rich, gorgeous, preppy, and self centered. Yes… Correct…” (Quietly) “Correcttt…” She realizes she said that outside of her mind. Everyone was confuse and pretty much annoyed. “Uhhhhh. AHEM! Hurry up!!!” She walks half way up the stairs then suddenly slowing down.
Kulap: “Where is she going?” (Quietly)
Bow: “I don’t know…Kasem!” She pulls onto his collar holding him back. “Are you sure you did not get the wrong girl!?” (Points) “A girl that dumb cannot possibly be VaNIda!” Her mouth was interrupted by Mali.
“Where do you think your going?” (Rudely)
“Inside…. Why? Why are you asking?”
(Loudly) “Because this is MY house. You have guts to ask that question?” A slap in the face did she felt. Vanida stood still like a statue.
“You are???”
“Mali. You don’t know? And yet, you still have the guts to ask me another question.”
“No. I didn’t mean it that way.” Vanida felt defeated already on her first day! She frowns looking at the floor.
“Fine. Go on inside, you must be tired.” Mali took off first. Followed by Vanida and the rest.
“Sit there.” (Points) “Judging by your movements, you must hungry.”
Vanida sees 3 people sitting on the sofas, while the rest sat on the floor next to Mali. She looked over to the third person, it was Kulap. Kulap gave a friendly smile to her as a late greet. Vanida warmed at the thought of kulap and her being close in the future.
Sirakit residents
Tong: “Hey. Where’s the food? I’m starving here Adirake!”
Adirake: “No. There’s no more food.”
Tong: “Where is Tasanee? Did she go to get something?” (Smiles)
Adirake: (Long pause) “No. I’m . . . I’m not sure. I came home this morning and she wasn’t here. Everything is still here. Maybe she went to the Chapordaporn to be bossed by her friend.” Adirake picks up his drink to sip on it.
Tong: “What if she left?” Tong laughed out loud. “What??? You know its true that’s why you are mad. Anyways, I’m getting hungry, Water cant make me Full! Lets go find something to eat. If it doesn’t come to us, we come to THEM.” (Smiles NAStily) Both of them walk down the street and saw some food stands. Adirake look to Tong and saw Tong censuring him to do. Adirake was against it, but Tong was right. Water can’t replace food.
“Oh, I almost forgot. Those are our workers here in Dome Torng. There are more, but not available right now. Just remember to look at the uniform before suggesting anything.” Vanida felt quilty. “This is Kasem, your personal driver. Anywhere you may want to go, just inform him whenever. But before you do leave, let me know ahead of time first. Next to him is Bow. She and Kasem have been married for seven years.. She works in the house and kitchen. Next to her is Phueng, and Tola. Both are the same as Bow, but Phueng has been here the longest and knows more. And that is Suay, Khun Ahdits personal driver. If you see Suay home, Khun Loob is too.” Kulap smiles. She look up and saw Mali looking seriously at her knocking that smile off.
“Why don’t you have one too Mali?” (Dumbly)
“Because my work and duty is here in Dome Torng. I take care of the major housework and Grandfather. You have one simply because you are from town and may not adjust to staying in one place too long.” Quietness was in the air. Vanida felt awkward.
“P’ Loob just got back from business in town. Maybe you two took the same train. And by the way, I am kulap.”
“Hi.” (Clear throat) “Possible . . . “ vanida spoke quietly. She thought about what Kulap had said… “If he did take the train, did he see anything?” Her thoughts were interrupted.
Dinner was served.
After dinner, Tola shows vanida the inside of Dome Torng since it was dark out. “Miss vanida, how long are you staying?”
“I’m thinking a year.”
“One year?? But . . . Won’t you get homesick?”
She shook her head. “No. No matter what, I promise. One year is not that long. Hopefully I will get use to here soon so I wont miss home too much.” Vanida turns to face Tola. “Whats the matter?”
“Nothing . . .”
“Then why are you confused? Did I say something wrong?”
“No. It’s just . . . I’m just confused of why you have never been here before, but then there is a picture of you in the family album.”
“What? How is that possible? Maybe you’ve mistaken me for someone.” Vanida turn her back to Tola. (Herself) “Is it that Vanida sent a picture of me ahead of time? But I don’t take pictures at all though.” Quickly she turns to face Tola. “Can you show it to me?”
“Shhh. This is khoon Yaays room. No one is allowed. But I figure, it shouldn’t be an issue since you are her grand-daughter.” (Smiles)
Peeking into the dark room. “Is she asleep?” Vanida takes a quick glance of Tola. “What now??” With a annoyed look.
“Miss vanida, she is not sleeping. Because she is dead.”
Her eyes widen. “What!? How!??”
“SHHHHhh! The next door beside it is Khoon dtaas room. Then down the hall to the right is Malis but she is downstairs. And at the end, is Khun Ahdits, but I think he is asleep. Let me take you to your room, then we’ll discuss it there, okay?”
“Sure . . .”
“Where is the page? It was here not too long ago. Humm. Miss vanida, I can’t seem to find it.” Tola looks up to vanida. Vanida was looking around her room at the interesting stuff. She look down to Tola, she pity her.
“Well . . . Your not going to find it down there.” (Vanida walks over to the lamp near the open window) “Come sit on this chair next to the lamp. Here, you’ll get more chance of finding my look-alike.” (Smiles)
“No. I don’t need any light. Its not here, someone must have taken it out. But I just saw it last week though. That’s strange . . .”
“What’s strange is that you are mistaking me for somebody Tolaa.” (Smiles) Vanida was relieved. “Just a mistake.” She said to herself.
“Well. If you insist, I guess. It is getting late miss vanida. I well leave so you can sleep. Ill leave as so as soon as I put these albums back in order.”
Just as Tola was about to open the door, Vanida signaled. “Wait!” She walks over to Tola. “Can I have a look at these pictures? Don’t worry, by tomorrow morning I will be finish already.” To convince Tola, Vanida did her puppy eyes.
“Okay, but just be careful. They are very fragile.” Handing the albums over to vanida like a baby.
“Don’t worry. If you can handle it, so can I.” (Smiles) As soon as she received the albums in her hand, she push Tola out and closed the door. “Good Night!” She screams through her door.
“Okay! You too.” She heard.
Vanida hurriedly walk to her bed and turn on her night-light to a higher standard. She carefully laid the 3 photo albums down and jumps onto her bed. (To herself) “OHHH Tasanee! For how long have you not been yourself??? Its feels soo good to relax and not worrying about repaying someone.” A big happy smile came across her face. “HEHE.” She said out loud. She open the biggest album, the oldest pictures were in there. The first 3 pictures were brown and white but all contain a beautiful lady sitting on a rocking chair, standing next to her was a tall handsome man, wearing tux. She wonder who could this couple possibly is. All the pictures in the first album at the beginning contain that exact same couple but at different occasions. Towards the middle, a different lady was sitting next to that same exact man. “Perhaps they’ve mistaken the lady too?” She thought. “But no, because if it’s a mistake, it wouldn’t have made its way halfway through the album.” Confuse she was, but didn’t let it stop her from looking at the albums. In the second album, it mostly contains pictures of kids and that second lady in the first album. “Who is she?” She thought to herself. As soon as she got to the last picture in that second album, she notices the first lady in album one was not at all in the second. “That is not a mistake at all.” She said. Finally as she was about to grab the third, a knock came to the door. She walks over, and stood next the door.
“Who is it?”
“Me, Phueng. Mali told me to tell you its pass midnight. To turn off your light.” (Rudely)
“Oh, okay. I will.” Nothing was heard in return. Phueng had already left. Vanida walk to her bed and sat on it. “That’s weird. How come they know my light is on when my room is on the opposite of theirs?” Spooked, she walks over to her door and opens it. Slowly, she peeks into the dark hallway. Nobody was there; lights were all turned off. After a couple seconds, a light starts to appear at the end of the hallway. It starts to get bigger as it gets closer. Vanida panics and quickly closes her door locking it right away. As she change into her nightgown, she kept thinking to herself that somebody was in there with her. Watching her while she took off her clothes one by one. Finally, she got under the covers. She twists and turn for a perfect spot. “I wish I had brought some candles.” (Sadly) Finally, she feel asleep.
Vanida awoken to the sound of a rocking chair crackling. Slowly she pushes herself up to see what it was. The light was shining through too much to see the image. She move her head a little to see that it was nothing. "Already morning" She said looking out the window. She look down to her desk and pick up the clock. "Its past 10!!!"
By 1030, she came rushing down the stairs still buttoning her shirt. She accidentally trip at the last step not paying attention and fell into somebodies arm.
(Surprisingly) "You!" She opens her eyes to see that it was a tall handsome man. She got scare and tries to break free. Khun Ahdits lets her go as she desire. He stares at her happily, then stopped. And turn on his Serious look. "Do you know what time it is?" (Demanding tone) Vanida stood still like a dumb doll. She just remember her buttons were not fully button all the way and covered her chest with her hands.
"Oump! I know I woke up late. I promise . . ." She just remember, the ALBUMS! Her worried face suddenly turns loss. He thought she was having a seizure and quickly walks to her side.
"Are you okay?" He asks.
"Oh my god! Umm, I . . . I forgot something.” She zooms back up the stairs almost tripping again but grabbed onto the rail. She left to her room leaving Khun Ahdit confused. She opens her door and quickly walks to the table near the window. The albums were not there. She panics and looks everywhere in her room. She started to sweat and became a mess. A knock came at the open door. She looks up while still searching under her bed. It was Phueng. She stood still at the doorway holding the three albums in her hand.
“You’re looking for this?” (Rudely)
“Yes!” Quickly, vanida stood to her feet. “Why did you come into my room?” (Demandingly)
“If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have known you went into Khoon Yaays room!”
“I didn’t! It was . . . “ Vanida was stuck there, She knew if she said Tola, Tola would definitely be fired.
“It was Tola wasn’t it!??” (Confidently) A smirk flew across Phuengs face.
Vanida swallowed hard and answered. “No!” Vanida took a few steps that took her halfway to the door. Vanida decides to use her status that she was given. (Loudly) “This is none of your business Phueng. Don’t ever come into my room without my approval!”
Vanidas response shock Phueng and threw that smirk of hers to the ground. Phueng bit onto her lower lips, as she knew she was defeated. (To Herself) "You are not the stupid push-over girl you were when you arrived."
"Fine!" she said loudly. “But I will tell Mali that you went into Khoon yaays room without her approval.”
“How dare you to disobey my orders!”
“Your orders?” (Smirks) “Miss vaniDA! This is not your house. You don’t have rules or standards here.” Again, she spook as if her status is the same as vanidas.
"Either way, I am a guest here at Dome Torng." She grabbed all her mites to say this sentence and look straight into Phuengs eyes. "Dont forget who my grandmother is." The fierce look vanida gave reminded her of someone in the past. Phueng freaks out and drops the photo albums.
