so lao new year is coming up, and i wanted to know what do u guys do in your hometown for lny.... is it big or small and how many days does it last??? well i'm from louisiana and we have a very big..huge celebration.. it goes on for three days, which is usually fri., sat., and sun. we do something different everyday... the highlight of friday is the tak baht and the pageant, sat. is the parade, and sunday is like the water fight day.. while we have a mini parade going around people's houses to wet them...

I usually go to the event near Orlando, they have a big wat over there and would usually have well known singers from Thailand and Laos perform. I don't like the one thats held in the town that I live in. There's this two temples, an old one, and a new one which has just been built 3 years ago, would always conversate profusely over donations and which temple should be the sponsor of the event. It's always about money between the two and bragging rights.

i live in sydney and i'll be going to LNY, last couple of years i was hanging out with some dudes playing in the water fights. last year i spent my time with my ex. this year i'll be doing something more traditional like helping out with the duk baht, watching the performances like muay thai demonstrations and the khaen and taking my little cousins to all the rides and that.

laos new year here.
i live in rhode island. yeah we have 2 temples. they have some political thing going on so there is one small and one big, i go to the big one and it'd go on for 2 days, sat & sunday.
saturday - thuck baht, a concert, food vendors, souhng narm pah [giving a shower to the buddha statues], the pageant, children performances, adult forn performances also
sunday - thuck baht, the elected pageant winner on the parade around the temple, then concert, food vendors...
people from around the east coast would come over, the temple is getting bigger. they get popular thai singers here and there and also the lao singers.
but mostly it's during the rainy season, once in a while we'll have water fights if the weather isn't sooooo cold and well if the whole thing works out because it usually rains. lol. nice way to wash all the sins away.

but anyways, ive been livin in PA for a while now, and i go to the temple in VA, and its HUGE, we usually have famous ppl that come here to perform and stuff, and it usually follows for 3 days...so far ive met jonas and christi, and also Tai Orrathai, it was cool meeting them, even though i dont really listen to their music haha

acutally i've noticed that too...but i dont really know why they use that, instead of the current one..i guess cause laos is known as the land of a million elephants?...lol i have no idea why..im glad u brought that up haha

um... about the flag why so many people use the old one then the new one well .....from what i heard from alot of older people that work to get lao to become freedom country, well they hate the new flag of laos cause its a communist flag. laos is communist and it the communist who change the flag also the coummunist who burn down the old flag of laos. But for myself i don't not use that new flag of laos at all i use the old one. I'm not hating on this new flag of laos but the fact that i dont' like communist so i dont' like this new flag. if i have to use the new flag i rather use the united state flag then the communist. Now and day you'll see kids in the united state using the new flag because they don't know the history behide why OG and other young lao people use the old flag then they new flag of laos.... man i can go on about this coummunsit thing but i'm just gonna stop here... it just making me mad that laos is the a freedom country. MAN.. why laos got to be a weak country?...or is it lao people that is weak. Anyways about lao new years man, to me it still a long way.. I have not plan anything yet. hopfully this year it won't rain. Its suck so bad when it rain haha lol.
yes the laos flag is very controversial... i mean we had our share of problems with the flags too... but know it seems very much okay, because i made a suggestion why put either up at the temple if people are going to fight about it and the temple is not a place for you to discuss this kind of issue... (this is america, i mean i love being laos, but we live in america).. so now we only have the american, louisiana, and buddhist flags up at the temple.

By the way, are some of you guys sporting the old flags on your car windows? lol. I do, a big three headed elephant logo on the back of my window. My friend who went to Laos last year said you won't find that three headed elephant flag anywhere, only one left is in the museum. But other than that, you will find wood carvings of it which is not close to the original design of it.
My mom to this day call Laos 'Khon Iy-Nong'.

I might be going to the temple but I'm not sure. The temple officials (not the buddhist monks) over here are a bunch of a$$es. Always barking at each other making the Lao community look bad. And the youngsta are always fighting at the temple.
