Currently I am able to read Thai and the font that is available on Vista. I did not have to download any special program so I assume that Vista recognize foreign language or it comes built-in?

I would like to learn how to type in Thai. Can anybody direct me to a site or the keyboard layout on how to type in Thai?

Also if there is any keyboard settings I need to change.

Thank you!

Hmm. i don't know about anyone but in order to have laos font work for my dad, i have to installed the font in the system and then he can type it -- however, he have to write down the laos character on each individual key so he can tell which is which to write out his papers.

Here's more information to help you out on what you need to do: http://www.into-asia.com/thai_language/thaifont/typing.php
Unicode converter: http://www.thai-language.com/?tab=2&ref=keyb

Also google and found these virtual keyboard sites: http://www.learningthai.com/thaikeyboard/ or here : http://www.incks.com/en/thai.html

Thank you for the links. I read into a bit and after a couple of trial and error I now am able to type in Thai.

I already know how to type in Cambodian and with that I had to install fonts and changed the keyboard setting. However, with Thai I already see that Windows comes with it so I just went into the keyboard layout and add Thai and google up the keyboard layout and was able to get it to work. I now need to practice typing up a song just to get my fingers to become more familiar. Thanks for the direction. :)

Yup, that was what I end up doing. Then I had to google around for the keyboard layout. I have a long long way to go because I notice that the Thai Keyboard Layout is not as close to the Cambodian Keyboard Layout. What I meant is that for example the S(sound) would be on the S-key or at least close if it the Cambodian Layout. But for the Thai Layout, the letters are scattered.

I just need to empty some portions of my brain and try to memorizes the keys.

Thanks everybody for your help.

Yes I can type in Cambodian eeheh and I would say I am about 95% fluent with typing because I do it often enough that I do not need to look at the keyboard layout anymore. This is why i want to tackle on Thai :)

I agree, typing is EZ because you just hit it but figuring out what to hit and where is the difficult part LOL

honestly, you will not remember all the thai keys... i still don't. it's because we don't use all of the 44 characters of the alphabet, and some of the pronounciation keys are also not frequently used.

the hard part is remembering when a character uses a shift key... since thai have so many keys, they use both levels regular + shifts... i can type anywhere in thai as long as the board is installed. :coverlaf: i even installed it at work so i can chat with some of my thai buds at work lol.

goodluck, it'll be frustrating at first but as long as you don't give up, that's already 80% of the battle ;)
