Chapter 31
Tik had already been at the fields half an hour before the sun was about to set. The wind was blowing hard, he could see the trees swooshing from side to side as if they were going to break at any moment. The sun was begining to fall, the sky and clouds were filled with colors of red and orange. Not a moment longer he felt a droplet of water on his cheeks, and Kob hasn’t arrived yet. As it was getting colder, he heard footsteps.
Kob was barefooted and slowly walked toward Tik. Her feet above the cold and misty grass, each step she took the more strongered and confident she felt. Tik turned, with anger and happiness in him, anger at Kob for making him wait, but happy that she finally came as she said.
Kob: “Did you waited long?” She brushed a little leaf that rested on Tik’s hair.
Tik: “I’ve didn’t wait long” Kob knew he lied about waiting, she was in the house looking down at him through the glass window, she saw him wait for hours, seeing him shaking by the coldness.
Kob: “Whatever Kob Suvanant Kongying says, she’ll never back down.” She lite a smiled on her face. “I want to know if you love me?” strangely she grab Tik’s collar and pulled him toward her.
Tik: “Of course, I love you with all my heart, love you with my whole life” he said sincerely with all his affection. Kob gave him a little smirked and shoved him away harshly. Tik couldn’t keep his balance and fell to the ground. “Why are you using such forced?” he asked confused. He felt his neck burning as something sliced it or slid it.
Kob: “If compared yourself to this ring, you’re worthless at it is” she raised his necklace that had her engagment ring and the wedding ring. He quickly felt his neck, and finally noticed the reason Kob shoved him. “That’s right, the engagement is no longer with you, it’s in my hands.” She took a step closer to Tik who still laid on the ground and puzzled for he had thought she was finally going to reveal her love to him. “I’ve waited for this day for so long. To tell you, you do not mean anything to me.” The second she finished her sentence she threw the necklace with the ring into the dark fields. Rain was begining to drop from the sky. Kob raised her head and stare at the darken sky. “I’ve told you this was a perfect night. Today my nightmare has disappear” she muttered. The raining steamed down her face when she took once last glance at Tik before turnig her back to him.
Tik: “Kob!” he called when seeing that she was about to leave him. “I’ve beg of you, don’t do this.” He kneeled himself before her. Kob took a deep breath and turned to face him. He was kneeling down on the grass and mud, the wind blowing on him, and rains soaken him. “Don’t step on my heart, please. I love you” he paused “Love you more than my life.” Kob could hear his voice shaken and wasn’t as stable as before.
Kob: “I am not stepping on your heart, you can love me all you want. But know this, I won’t return your love.”
Tik: “Even if i’m kneeling before you, you won’t even sympathize me!?” he shouted in pain.
Kob: “Find the engagment ring and I’ll see what I can do for you. But! You can not recieve any help by anyone.” She quickly turned and headed back to her room. When she could no longer see Tik, she fastened her pace and ran into the room, jumping on the bed and pinning her head onto the pillow so could no longer breath. When she felt herself weaken, she lifted her head and watched the weather outside of her window, the weather that represented Tik, he was like the raindrops, even though knowing he will fall and injure himself, he chooses to fall and become fragile.
Tik took Kob’s words seriously, not wasting any time he searched and searched. His hands dig into the wet mud and grass field, running around like a minaic. He had searched but did not have luck finding it, every place he looked seem like the same place, getting him frustrated. It was a long night for Tik, when he notice, the sun was beginging to rise again, morning was coming before he knew it. Several servants came and tried to convince him to take a rest, but he yelled at them and chased them off.
A knock came tapping at the door that woked Kob. She was dizzy when she opened her eyes. Everything was a blur to her, feeling her way to the door. When she opened the door, a loud voice came overboard. Kob knew immediatly who it was.
Aom: “Kob, what is going on here?”
Kob: “What have the servants told you, they told you I was at fault didn’t they.” Kob opened the fridge and got herself some cold water to drink. But before she can lift the cup to her lips Aom pulled it down.
Aom: “They told me you’re the reason to Tik being outside and searching for his rings.”
Kob: “My god, They made it into such a big deal. Tik being outside and searching for his rings is not even a big deal.” She removed Aom’s hand from the cup and took a gulp and threw the cup into the sink, shattering it. “Just like a glass cup, once it is broken you can never patch it back to the original structure.”
Aom: “What are you trying to tell me Kob? My sister isn’t like this.” She came in front of her.
Kob: “What Tik is suffering can not compare to what he had done to me.”
Aom: “When Tik kidnap you and did all those things to you? Hasn’t he already showned you that he was guilty, already shown you he grown to love you, he can never harm you.”
Kob: “Don’t speak of what you don’t know. Every single night, I had never had a peaceful sleep. Everytime I close my eyes his image is always there haunting me! Not until yesterday, I slept wonderfully and joyfully.”
Aom: “Kob, even if a glass cup has broken, you take the pieces and melt it back, make it into a newer cup, it would be stronger than ever. Don’t let your nightmare overtaken your sweet and lovely nature.”
Kob: “What lies behind me, and what lies before me are tiny matters compared to what lies within me.” With a bold look Kob sat by the large window and look down at Tik humiliting himself. “This is enough for me, I promise you I won’t torture him anymore.” She gave a slight smile and turned to Aom. “My dear sister, I won’t do anything more to him” She pated Aom on the cheek and headed down to the fields.
***Captain ran to Tik’s side and tried dragging him out of the fields***
Captain: “I’ll have people look for it, go inside! You’re being foolish”
Tik: “You’re the one being foolish. Kob told me to look for it by myself, and that is what I’m doing it, I won’t stop tell I find it.” Captain took a swing at Tik, but he kneeled down to get something and he missed. Falling to the ground, buttock first. Tik cleaned what he found, but it was just the black string, the ring wasn’t there. He was devastated.
Kob: “Captain Kah” She was walking up to them.
Captain: “Kob, Kob, please stop Tik from what he’s doing” he begged of her.
Kob: “I was going to do just that, please give us a moment together.” Captain quickly ran a far distance but kept his eye on them. Tik kneel down not getting up from where he was sitting.
Tik: “I can’t find the damn ring!” he smacked his fist into the ground.
Kob: “Even if you search a thousand years you won’t find it.” She kept her hands bounded behind her.
Tik: “Why do you say such things, even if it takes my whole life, I will stay here until I find it. Life without love, is like a tree without bloosoms.” His jaws tightened.
Kob: “I would love to to run away, but without you the world would cease to exist. You’re not the only one who knows how to compare love to nature.” Kob gave a hidden smile.
Tik: “Are you hidding something from me? Are you toying with me?” he slowly rose to his feet. The knees of his pants were muddy, his hands were also muddy, his face was dirty with dry mud. Kob walked toward him. Her hands now fell to her side, holding a hankerchief in one hand, while the other hand was close into a fist. When she stood inches from him she lifted the handkerchief and carefully wiped the dry mud off his cheeks. Tik stared at her, feeling her warmness once again, not the dark and emptiness he had felt before. Kob carefully lifted his hands that were bruise and stained with dry blood, mud, and speck of stones. Tenderly, she brushed them off, and lowered her lips on bruise.
At last she tilted her head aside, her eyes meeting Tik. Kob’s eyes sparkled in joy and happiness. He couldn’t help but notice her giltter eyes and delightful smile. Though dust has gotten over their clothing that they were wearing since yesterday, the love in their eyes were stainless.
In the fields, the wind blew, waving the grass back and forth. The birds chirp as they chased each other in the air, making elegant music in the atomosphere. The sun rose to it’s highest peak, warming the fields, drying out the rain that has once fallen down to earth.
Lightly and calmly, Kob leaned her head and rested it close by Tik’s chest, hearing his heart beat strongly. She shut her eyes, and slid her hands underneath Tik’s arms, wrapping her hands around his waist. She could feel Tik’s heart slowling down it’s pace, and beating more calmly.
Gradually Tik responded, wrapping his arms over her body, embracing her, twining their warmth and love into one. He lowered his lips and kisses the side of Kob’s forehead, before tighten his grip.
Kob: “Tik kah” she delicately spoke.
Tik: “What is it?”
Kob: “Don’t you agree, love is easy to begin with but hard to end” she raised her head and look him straight in the eye.
Tik: “I couldn’t agree more” his voice sweetly. Brushing a strain of hair away from Kob’s face, his hand rest on her cheek, his thumb slightly stroke her cheeks. Abruptly, Kob took hold of his hands and lowered them down, placing something cold into his palm, and laying her hand ontop of his to cover it up.
Kob: “Whatever you treasure, I’ve treasured most.” She slid her hand back. Tik’s eyes were almost teary when her hand removed from his, and uncovered something he thought he had lost.
Tik: “The rings” he choked back.
Kob: “I’ve never threw your ring away. There’s no reason to throw it away. All I wanted was to find out if Tik Jessadaporn would have the courage to fall to his knees. If he had enough courage then I too will have enough courage to say, I love you.”
Tik: “You tested me?”
Kob: “Don’t be mad, afer all, what you did to me in the past is much more than what i did to you last night.” Kob saw Tik’s brow rosed up.
Tik: “You meant, what i’m going to do now is much more than what you did to me last night” he paced toward her. She knew he was coming for her. Quickly she ran in the fields giggling as Tik chased her around. “Wait till I get you Suvanant!” he shouted after her.
Kob: “Let me see if you can catch me!” she shouted back. Running away from him, as the grass brush against both of their feet. Underneath their feet coldness and wetness, but above warmness and sweetness. Tik took his shoes off, throwing them away in the fields to chase Kob.
Aom watch from the house when Captain came behind her. Wrapping his arms around her tiny waist.
Captain: “Are you jealous of their love?”
Aom: “Jealous, Kob just told me Tik was her nightmare, and now she’s laughing and running around” she said confusedly.
Captain: “She was just kidding you. Knowing that you would tell Tik about her plans.”
Aom: “I’m not a big mouth.” Captain caught her in her sentence placing his lips over hers for the first time.
