Right? It’s so suspicious to me that it suddenly became so popular…maybe because I had just finished watching Alice in Borderland, which pretty much has the same setting.
I finished Alice in Borderland and found Squid Game pretty similar, but liked the former more than the latter. I did hear a bit about the plagiarism, but it got silent out from all the praise and ranking of being #1.
I feel a lot of non-kdrama watchers over hyped it. I haven't watched it personally myself so I can't really say how good/bad it is. I find that shows that everyone raves about is usually not to my liking.
I heard the show was in the making for a very long time, but I think that it's just another typical Kdrama/Asian drama. I mean, I haven't watch or seen the whole show but it's a common type of Asian drama theme/genre, so it's nothing new or special imo. Non-Asian drama watchers only hype it bc it's not as common in non-Asian shows/movies.
@roselovesice I think director Hwang is a liar and just took bits and pieces of Japanese mangas he is fan of to make his movie and ride on the growing koreaboo feeling.
Its popular because white people like it. Asians, we seen this story recycled so many times, its nothing new. I am a fan of Battle Royale...THAT is better then every other film/show based on this genre.
