Chapter 1: Looking for a Place to Sleep
“P’Golf where are you taking me?” asked Mike.
“To a place where we can be safe from step-mother and have food to eat,” Golf replied.
“P’Golf, will we find mom because I miss her?” Mike asked.
“We’ll find her…don’t worry,” Golf said as tears ran down his cheeks, “but first we needed a place to sleep.”
“P’Golf, where will we sleep tonight, I’m hungry?” Mike asked.
“I saw a temple close by, we’ll go and asked if we could stay for the night ok…don’t worry big brother will protect you,” Golf said.
“Ok big brother,” Mike replied.
As they came close to the temple they saw a monk…
“Sorry to interrupt, but can I and my little brother sleep here tonight because we have nowhere to go,” Golf said gently.
The monk said slowly in an old voice, “We have no good place, but I think you two could sleep here for the night.”
“Thanks for letting us stay for the night, sorry but do you have anything to eat, my little brother is hungry?” Golf asked.
“We do, but it’s only enough to fit one person,” the monk said.
“That’s good enough, at least my little brother has sometimes to eat, thank you kind monk,” Golf said gently to the monk.
The monk left Golf and Mike in a small room in the temple and went to go get some food. Soon enough he returned…
“Here you go…this is all we have left in the temple, and here are some old rags and blanket for you to sleep on,” said the monk.
“Here Mike, eat this because you’re hungry, tomorrow I will go find more ok,” Golf said to Mike.
“P’Golf eats this, I know you’re hungry too,” Mike said.
“It’s ok Mike, big brother can diet, hurry eat it before it rotten,” Golf told Mike.
“No, I won’t eat it if you don’t eat, I know P’Golf is hungry like me too, mommy taught us to share even if there’s only a little…don’t you remember,” Mike said as his eyes begins to water.
“Listen to me Mike, I will always remember the words mom said to us, but listen to me and eat so you can be tall like me one day,” Golf told Mike.
“But P’Golf, you’ll go starving then,” said Mike.
“It’s ok, big brother can handle it, just eat so you can be strong and tall like me,” Golf said.
“Really, then I’ll eat it so one day I can be as tall as you P’Golf,” Mike said as he happily ate the food.
After Mike finish they took the old rags and place it by the corner, then they cover themselves with the old blanket and sleep for the night.
…The next day…
“P’Golf, P’Golf where are you?” Screamed Mike as he wake up to find Golf nowhere in sight. Mike started crying as he hared footsteps. Then the door swung open and Golf was in the door way. “P’Golf I thought you left me like mommy and grandma,” Mike said sadly.
“Don’t worry, P’Golf won’t leave your sight, P’Golf will always be here for you Mike,” Golf said as he wipe Mike’s tears and hug him.
“P’Golf what were you doing so early?” Mike asked.
“I was just helping the monks rake the leaves, carry waters, and wipe the temple so they can give us food,” Golf answered.
“P’Golf do you need me to help you too, I can, I have a lot of muscle,” Mike said smiling as he show Golf his skinny little arm.
Golf laughed and said, “Mike, P’Golf can do it all, just stay here and keep warm so you won’t get sick.” Then Golf hugged Mike.
...At home their Father was wondering where they went to…
“Pham where are my two sons, they are suppose to be up already, it’s almost time to send them to school,” said Tae.
“Oh my, they’re gone, Tae hurry and come see, they’re not in their rooms,” Pham said in a voice that sound like she was so frighten.
Tae ran up stairs to Mike’s room, he could see that his son were nowhere in sight. He thought to himself what could have happen until he saw a piece of paper with a drawing on it. He took the paper and look at it carefully, the paper was drawn by Mike and he also wrote something on it…
“Daddy, sorry for running away with out telling you
I know that you will get mad, but P’Golf is with me
and we are going to go find mommy and grandma,
don’t worry daddy, P’Golf will take care of me…
I Love You Daddy, Mike”
As Tae finish reading the paper, tears ran down his cheeks. He looked at the drawing that Mike drew; it was their family together with big smiles. This even made Tae’s tears drop more.
“I’m going to find my two sons,” he said to Pham.
“Wait! You can’t go yet, you don’t even know where they’re at, you should just call the police and wait until they find them,” Pham suggested.
“I can’t just stand here and let my two sons wonder around in the streets, it’s been a night and I don’t even know if they’re starving,” Tae said yelling back to Pham.
Then a servant came running, “Tae…, Tae…read this, I found it in Golf’s room!”
As Tae read the paper…
“Dad, I’m sorry for running away with Mike and not
telling you. I know that you love me and Mike
very much, but we don’t want to become trouble
for your future life. Don’t look for us dad because
it will be best for all. I will take good care of Mike
don’t worry. If we are really meant to be father
and sons then one day we’ll meet again, but
until that day, remember dad that we love you…
Golf”
When Tae finish reading Golf’s letter, he couldn’t hold his tears but cry and ran out to his car. Tae drove his car and went searching for Golf and Mike.
…Back at the temple…
“P’Golf what are you doing?” Mike asked.
“I’m just wiping the floors so it will be clean,” Golf answered back.
“Can I help because I have nothing to do?” Mike asked.
“It’s ok, P’Golf can handle it, just a little bit more than I’m done and we’ll go play okay Mike,” Golf answered.
“Let me help you P’Golf so we can go play faster,” Mike said as he took the cloth and started to wipe the floors.
Golf looked and said, “Mike, do you think dad will come and look for us?”
Mike turned around and started crying, “P’Golf, I miss daddy, I miss my bed, I miss my friends at school, I miss home, and I miss mommy.”
“Don’t cry Mike,” as Golf went over to hug him, “we can’t go home anymore because step-mother will try to kill us again, and from now on I think we have to stay here with the monks,”
“P’Golf, will we ever see daddy again?” Mike asked.
“One day when we grow up, we’ll see dad again, don’t worry,” Golf said as he started to cry.
“P’Golf, don’t cry, I love you,” Mike said as they both hugged and cried.
Out side in the door way the monk could see that the two boys loved each other very much. Then he walked in…
“Sons, why are you crying?” said the monk.
“Sorry monk, for crying in the temple,” Golf said.
“What do you guys have that you can’t tell me sons,” the monk asked.
“Oh, there’s nothing much, we just thought about our life and felt sad of what we’d gone through,” Golf answered back.
“Shall you tell me then, the problem that brought you two here last night?” the monk asked us.
I could not lie so I told the truth, “Our mom died about a year, and our dad remarried to a new wife. Our dad married her to come and love us and our grandma, but it didn’t turn out the way he wanted. Each day when our dad is at work, we were at home getting torture by her. We couldn’t say anything to our dad because each word we say means a bullet. Until our grandma died, we knew we could stay there no more. So I decided to take my little brother and runaway so the both of us can be safe. We ran off and had nowhere to go until we came upon this temple last night and asked for a place to sleep. This is mostly it of our lives.”
“Oh…will, you can stay here, but it will be dirty and there is only a little to eat,” the monk said.
“It’s okay with us at least we have somewhere to sleep and something to eat,” Golf said.
Then the monk left and Golf-Mike went back to wiping the floors.
…Back at Home…
“You’re back already,” Pham said, “Did you find them?”
“No,” Tae answered.
“Oh…my! What could have happen to them over night?” Pham said as if she sounded so scared.
“Don’t worry, nothing can happen to them, I’ll find them where ever they are,” Tae said.
Chapter 2: The Temple a new Home
…The temple (6:00 p.m.)…
“Mike, are you hungry?” Golf asked.
“No P’Golf, I’m not hungry,” Mike answered. “P’Golf, will we go and look for mommy, you said we will if we find a place to sleep,” Mike said.
“I know, but mom is far away…in a place where it will take years and years to reach…,” Golf said as his eyes begin to water.
“P’Golf, what is that place call then, can you tell me, I don’t care if it takes years to reach mommy, I’ll go with you ok…so tell me P’Golf what is that place called?” Mike asked.
“That place is called…Paradise…, it’s a place where all good moms go to when they are di…um…I mean when they need happiness,” Golf answered to Mike as a lie.
“Will we ever go to paradise and find mommy, P’Golf, will we?” Mike asked.
“Mike, one day you’ll understand what paradise really is…,” Golf said.
“Time to eat,” called the monk.
“P’Golf lets go eat I’m hungry,” Mike said as he hold his tummy.
Golf smiled and said, “Okay Mike lets go.”
…After dinner…
“Mike I fix the bed already, go and sleep now,” Golf said.
As Mike came from the window he said, “P’Golf I miss mommy and the song she use to sing to us before we sleep.” Mike began to cry again.
“Don’t cry Mike, P’Golf will sing to you, remember mommy said this song means strong boys don’t cry easily,” Golf told Mike, “now listen carefully.”
“Okay, P’Golf,” Mike answered.
Then Golf begin to sing, “…Sing dee dee tee pau koey saun, look poo chai hua jai taung grang, jeb young ngai young ngai gaw taung kem kang, mai sia num tah, (Mike begin to sing with Golf) Jod lae jum lae tum taam nee, ja rai ja rang mai mee raung hai, ja nuk ja nah mai koey mai koey mai wai, ja hot ja rai mai chah gaw pon gaw paan, tae wun nee tae wun nee, kae piang neuk teung tur num tah gaw lai, yahk ja raung yahk ja raung, hai gub tur gub tur tur tee ting chun pai, hua jai mun jeb ja gep young ngai, chum jai tee soot mun yoot mai wai, hai mun lai hai mun lop lern, hai mun leum wah koey ruk krai, hai tur la lai pai gub num tah…”
Then Mike fell asleep and Golf covered him with the blanket…
…Next Day (2nd day at the temple)…
“P’Golf, are you going to go with the monk to get food,” Mike asked.
“Yes, so don’t get into trouble okay, the monk and I are just going around the block and back so just stay in there Mike,” Golf said.
“Okydoky, I’ll stay in here till you come back,” Mike said.
Then the monk and Golf left…
“Good Morning Monk,” a villager said as they bend down and honor him. They place food into his bowl as he blesses them off. Then went on to the next house and did the same thing until they’re back at the temple again.
“P’Golf, P’Golf,” Mike said as he ran out to Golf, “Your back already, I thought it was going to be longer.”
“Silly Mike, it wasn’t going to take that long, hurry and go its time to eat,” Golf said.
…Three weeks gone by…
“P’Golf, how long are we going to stay here?” Mike asked.
“I don’t know,” Golf answered as he kept raking the leaves to the side.
“P’Golf do you want me to help you?” Mike asked.
“Its okay, P’Golf can do it and there not much more,” Golf answered.
“Golf, Golf, come in here the Great One (the older monk) wants to talk to you,” said a servant who helps clean the garden.
“Okay, I’ll be there,” Golf answered back, then turned to Mike and said, “Mike, don’t touch the rake when I’m gone ok.” Then Golf went inside the temple.
Mike didn’t listen to Golf and took the rake and started raking the leaves, but it was to tall and he keep on hitting his head each time.
…In side the temple…
“Did you want to talk to me?” Golf asked.
“Yes, Golf, I wanted to talk to you,” the Great One answered and said, “I noticed that you and your little brother has been in the temple for about a month, and was wondering if you two would like to go home now.”
“No, we like it here, even though we worked all day and have only a little to eat, please don’t force us to go away,” Golf said.
“I didn’t mean that, I mean that I’m going to send you to the Department of Adoption, where you two can go to school and where there’s a better place to sleep,” the Great one answered Golf.
“So…you mean that you don’t want us here any more…,” Golf said back.
“No son, I mean, I’m going to send you to a better place than this, but I’m sorry for not telling you earlier that it is tomorrow,” the Great One said, “so are you willing to go tomorrow, I think it is best for you and your little brother.”
Golf thought for awhile and answered, “I accept your offer Great One.”
“Okay then, tomorrow they will come and pick you two up, but don’t worry I go with you two then I’ll come back,” the Great One said.
As Golf came out he saw Mike raking the leaves and hitting himself on the head with the rake. Golf looked carefully and saw that Mike’s forehead was red. Golf quickly ran over.
“Mike! I told you not to touch it,” Golf said in a rough voice.
“P’Golf…hmm…,” Mike said as he begin to cry.
“Don’t cry Mike,” Golf said and ran to hug him, “remember the song mom sang to us that good boys don’t cry?”
“Yes, I do, but I also remember that little boys who’s tears a lot has a tough heart,” Mike said.
“Don’t cry, P’Golf know that you were just trying to help, but tomorrow we have to leave here,” Golf said to Mike.
“Why did I do something wrong, P’Golf,” Mike said as he begin to cry again, “Is it because of me that we have to run away again?”
“No Mike, the monk found a better place for us to live so tomorrow we are going to leave here,” Golf answered to Mike.
“Really, so we have to leave here,” Mike asked.
“Yes, Mike, now go sit over at the stair case while P’Golf finish raking these leaves,” Golf told Mike.
“Ok, P’Golf,” Mike said back.
“Hey you,” Mae (age: 3) said, “why are you just sitting there, why don’t you help him?”
“My big brother told me not to go because I might hurt myself, and who are you?” Mike asked.
“My name is Mae I’m here with my parents, how about you; what’s your name and where are your mommy and daddy?” Mae asked.
“My mommy is in paradise and my daddy is at home; my name is Mike and that’s my big brother Golf, we’re here because we ran away from home,” Mike answered to Mae.
“Mike, don’t talk to stranger,” Golf said.
“P’Golf this is Mae, she is here with her mommy and daddy,” Mike told Golf.
“Hi, I’m Golf, Mike’s big brother,” Golf said to Mae then turn to Mike and said, “you can play with Mae while big brother finishes raking okay.”
“Okay,” Mike answered. Then Mike and Mae went over to the peach tree to play.
“Mike since you’re older then me can I call you P’Mike?” Mae asked.
“Yes, finally I’m older than someone,” Mike said then smiled.
“P’Mike, where is paradise, I want to see it,” Mae said.
“P’Golf said only mommy’s who need happiness goes there,” Mike answered back.
“Really, P’Mike, how far is paradise from right here?” Mae asked.
“P’Golf said it’s very far and it takes years and years to reach paradise,” Mike answered Mae.
“Really, P’Mike, it’s that far, will then maybe someday I will go visit it,” Mae said.
“If one day I go I’ll take you with me,” Mike said to Mae.
“You promise,” Mae said.
“Yes, I promise, if I ever go to paradise I will take you with me,” Mike said back to Mae.
“Okay then lets promise, hurry and raise your pinky finger,” Mae said.
They both twist their pinky around and promise each other.
“Mae, Mae, hurry up, we’re going home,” Mae’s mom said.
“Okay mommy, I’m coming,” Mae answered then turns to Mike and said, “remember what we promise P’Mike, bye-bye.” Then Mae ran off to her mom and dad.
Mike came back to where Golf was raking the leaves.
“Mike, where’s your new friend?” Golf asked.
“She went home with her mommy and daddy, umm…P’Golf if we leave here then I can never do what I promise to Mae,” Mike said.
“What did you promise to her Mike?” Golf asked.
“I promise that if one day I go to visit mommy in paradise I’ll take her with me,” Mike answered.
Golf looked at Mike and said, “Why did you promise that to her?”
“Because she wants to see paradise like me to, so I promise her that I will take her with us to go see mommy if we ever go,” Mike said back to me.
“Mike, don’t worry, one day Mae will understand what paradise really is and so will you,” Golf told him, “because only a few people know of this place.”
“Really P’Golf,” Mike said.
“Yes, only us, and a few other knows, but Mike, one day when you’re old enough to understand this, then you’ll know that paradise is the place that most people wants to go to, but not until their time,” Golf told Mike.
“P’Golf, so what is the true meaning of Paradise then?” Mike asked.
“You’ll understand it one day,” Golf said.
…The next day (6:00 a.m.)…
“Golf, Mike, the Department of Adoption is here to pick you up, hurry and come out,” said the Great One.
As Golf and Mike came out, they bend down and honor the temple for letting them stay there. One of Tae’s friends was going out of the temple when he saw Golf-Mike. He quickly took out his cell phone and called Tae, but the line was busy and he couldn’t reach him. He was about to run over and get them, but his wife wanted to go so he couldn’t do anything.
“Mike, Golf, get in the car, we have to go now,” the Great One said.
Golf and Mike went into the car with the monk and they drove off.
…At Tae’s house…
“Ringgg…riinnggg…,” as the servant ran over to get the phone.
“Can I talk to Tae, I have something very important to tell him,” Tae’s friend said.
“Okay, wait while I take the phone to him,” the servant said, then ran up stair to give Tae the phone.
“Hello, this is Tae,” Tae said.
“Tae, today at the temple when I was about to leave I saw your two sons, but I could go and talk to them because my wife was in a hurry, but I’m sure it is them,” Tae’s friend said.
“Is it true, okay then I’m going right now to the temple, bye,” Tae said then turn off the phone.
Pham was outside the door and heard his commotion, “What, they found where Golf and Mike is at?”
“Yes, my friend just called and said that he saw them at the temple, aren’t you happy with me that they found our sons,” Tae said with happiness.
Then Tae went and got his coat. He was about to leave when… “Tae, you can’t go, it might be a lie,” Pham said.
“No, I am going, I know my friend will never lie to me, aren’t you happy that they’ve found our sons,” Tae asked.
“I’m happy, but they just might be lying to you,” Pham said.
“Even if it just a lie, I will still go, you can’t stop me,” Tae said.
“No, you can’t go,” Pham yelled.
“Let go of me, I need to go find my two sons, let go,” Tea yelled with fierce.
“No you can’t,” Pham said.
“Let go,” Tae yelled again, as he swung his hand, Pham couldn’t get hold of Tae’s hand so she push him to stop him. Tae rolled down the stair head first causing damage to his brain and spine.
Pham ran down as she saw that Tae was unconscious, she was frighten then called the servant over. They took Tae to the hospital.
When the doctor came out…
“The patient is now fine, good thing he was here on time or it will be worse, but the patient will be paralyzed from the waist down and has memory loss badly, so it will last his life time,” the doctor said as he left.
Pham thought to herself of what she has done, but it will help to never find Golf and Mike again.
The doctor came back and said, “Your husband will be in the hospital for about a week then he could go home, but I will send a nurse to help you take care of him, so don’t worry.”
As the doctor went back inside the room…
Pham said out in an evil voice, “Good thing your father is unconscious now, he’ll never find you two, don’t even think that you’ll be able to come back ever, if I am still a live, you two have no chance of living in the same world with me.”
Chapter 3: The Department of Adoption
…At the Department of Adoption…
“Golf, Mike, I will leave you here with this kind lady, so listen to her, okay,” the Great One told Golf and Mike.
“Okay…um…Great One…”as they bend down and honor him, “thanks for letting us stay in the temple for a short time.”
“It’s okay my son, I know that one day you two will grow up to be strong and will success at anything you put your heart to,” the Great One said.
“Thank you for your blessing, one day when were old enough will come back and visit,” Golf answered back,
“One day will come visit and by then I will be very tall and strong,” Mike said and smiled.
“Yes, I will wait until that day; I will be going now so you two take care of each other okay,” the Great One said as he left.
Golf and Mike turn around. The kind lady introduces herself.
“My name is Bua, you could call me Bua, or older sister, or even mom, I don’t mind at all,” Bua said.
“Thanks for letting us stay her,” Golf said.
“It’s no problem, here follow me, I’m going to take you to your rooms,” Bua said as she walked them over to their rooms.
“P’Golf is she nice, is she our mommy,” Mike asked.
“No, she’s not, but it’s her job to take care of us and love us like a real mother,” Golf answered.
“Oh, okay then,” Mike replied.
“Here finally we found the room, Golf, you and your little brother will share this room with these other kids,” Bua said then call the kids over, “these are your new friends, their names are Golf and Mike so treat them nicely because they’re new here okay?”
“Okay, we will,” yelled the other kids.
“Golf, Mike, I will be leaving you here with your new friends, I will come back and tell you guys when it’s lunch,” Bua said as she left.
“Hey you, why are you here…hun..?” asked a boy by the name of Cee.
“We’re here because we have no where to go,” Mike answered and then asked, “Why are you here too?”
“We’re here because our mommy and daddy don’t want us anymore,” Cee answered.
“Why?” Mike asked.
“Because they think that we are bad kids, and will cause a lot of trouble to them,” another boy answered.
“I feel sad for you, but why are your mommy and daddy mean to you?” Mike asked.
“Because they think that we don’t deserve their love and they hate us,” Cee answered.
Golf just looked at the kids talking to each other and hold Mike back and tells him not to ask so many questions.
“P’Golf is our daddy like that, if he loves us then he would have come pick us up at the temple,” Mike said as he began to cry.
“Mike, don’t listen to them, you know that dad love us very much, but we can’t go home now because we ran away, and dad doesn’t even know where we’re at,” Golf answered.
“But, does daddy love us, P’Golf,” Mike asked.
“Yes, he does, I also love you too, even if dad is far away, I’m still here to protect you and love you always,” Golf said.
“Hey, you why are you too talking quietly and not to us, is there something that we don’t know hun…?” Cee asked.
“Hey, stop ignoring us, you know we don’t like people like that,” another boy said.
“Sorry, we are just not use to a lot of people around,” Golf answered.
“Will, it’s okay, you will meet a lot of people here because everybody knows everyone around here,” Cee said.
“Okay then, let’s all be friends, and introduce ourselves,” another boy said.
“My name is Cee, I’m 12 years old, I the oldest of everyone in here, so you can call me P’Cee,” Cee said.
“My name is Ken, I’m 5 years old,” Ken said.
“Well, I’m Ice, I’m 8 years old,” Ice said.
“Finally, It’s my turn, well I’m Jay, and I’m 9 years old,” Jay said.
“I’m Golf and I’m 10 years old, and this is my younger brother Mike, he is 5 years old,” Golf said.
“We’re happy to meet you, since we all are sharing the same room, I think we have to get use to each other,” Ken said.
“In here there are only 4 of us in this room and including you two then we have 6 people,” Jay said.
“It’s time for lunch, hurry kids,” Bua said.
“Okay, let’s go, it’s time for lunch now, hurry before they eat all the good stuff,” Ice said.
“Come on new friends, it’s time for lunch, hurry lets all go,” Cee said.
“P’Golf, lets go, I’m hungry,” Mike said.
“Okay, lets go, I’m also hungry too,” Golf said and walk with them to the Cafeteria.
…After Lunch…
“Okay kids, it’s time to play, so you could go outside to the playground,” Mrs. Bua said.
“Okay, Mrs. Bua,” the kids yelled as they ran out to the play ground.
“Be careful okay,” Mrs. Bua yelled after.
…At the play ground…
“Hey, do you like this place Golf?” Cee asked.
“It’s okay here, everyone is nice and kind,” Golf answered.
“Well, dud…everyone is nice and kind because we all feel the same way, everybody is here because their moms and dads doesn’t want them any more, or their moms and dads had past away and they have no where to go,” Jay said.
“What does that mean when they past away,” Mike asked.
“It means that they are gone and will never come back,” Ice answered.
“Why?” Mike asked.
“Because they’re died, they don’t breathe, their heart doesn’t beat, and they are buried or burn already,” Ken answered.
“P’Golf is that true, so it means that mommy and grandma past away,” Mike said as he begin to cry.
“Don’t cry Mike, it’s not like that, mommy and grandma are at a different place, remember Paradise,” Golf said.
“What’s Paradise?” Cee asked.
“It’s a place where all good moms go to when they need happiness, P’Golf said it’s very beautiful in Paradise that’s why every mommy goes there,” Mike answered.
“Really, so where exactly is this Paradise hun…?” Jay asked.
“It’s far away, in a place where it will take years and years to go to, and nobody could go there unless it’s there time,” Golf answered.
“Wow, I would like to go there some day and talk to my mom and tell her how much I miss her,” Ice said.
“If it true, then one day when I grow up I will go and visit that place and look for my mom,” Ken said.
“We could all go together, with another friend, I promise to her I will take her with me if I ever go, you can come too if you want,” Mike answered.
“I’m going to go take a drink of water over there, Mike stay right here and don’t go messing around okay,” Golf said.
As Golf left he could still hear Mike talking about paradise to the others. Golf knew to himself that if Mike knew it was just a lie then he would cry a lot and would never forgive Golf. As Golf came close to the water fountain he saw a girl sitting down holding her teddy bear with no friends.
“Hi, my name is Golf what’s your name?” Golf asked.
The girl just looks and stared at Golf. Golf could see that her eyes were watery and probably she miss her parents.
“What’s your name?” Golf said gently asking her again.
The girl looks up and said quietly almost in a whisper, “My name is Great.”
Chapter 4: New People, New Faces
“Nice too meet you, my name is Golf,” Golf said again, “I’m 10 years old, so why are you here na, why don’t you go and play with the other girls?”
“I don’t want to, and they don’t like me,” Great answered.
“Well then, I can play with you, since I don’t have a sister, you could be my little sister, you can call me P’Golf, like my little brother does,” Golf said.
“So, you’ll play with me, P’Golf?” Great asked.
“Yes, I will and also you could play with my new friends, they are over there, come I’ll introduce you to them,” Golf said inviting Great over.
“Are they nice?” Great asked.
“Yes, they’re nice, don’t worry if they are mean to you I’ll protect you,” Golf said.
“Okay I’ll come,” Great answered.
Great followed Golf to where Mike and the others were at.
“Hey, you guys this is Great, she is lonely so I took her here to play with us,” Golf said to them.
“Hi, my name is Mike, I’m Golf’s little brother, nice to be your friend,” Mike said.
“Hi, I’m Cee, that’s Jay, Ken and Ice,” Cee said.
“Hey, weren’t you that girl who came two weeks ago and didn’t talk to anyone?” Ken asked.
“Why are you here hun…? Jay asked.
“How old are you?” Ice asked.
Great started to cry because she was scare of them.
“Hey, don’t talk like that to our new friend, you’re scaring her,” Mike said.
“It’s okay Great, they are just asking you your age that’s all,” Golf said gently.
“I’m…umm…7 years old,” Great said gently.
“Really, you’re 7, I thought you were 5 because your so small,” Mike said.
“So why are you here?” Jay asked gently.
Great tears dropped and she said, “I’m here because my mom and dad died.”
“Oh…that is sad, I feel sorry for you,” Ken said.
Mike went over and wipe her tears and said, “Don’t cry, I’ll take you with us to Paradise too.”
“Mike and I will take you with us if we ever go and visit paradise,” Golf said to Great.
“Kids time to come in, hurry up,” yelled Mrs. Bua.
“Sorry we have to go now, will see you at dinner okay,” Golf said.
“Bye-bye,” they said as they all went back to their rooms.
…At dinner time…
“Hey Great, want to come over and eat with us?” Mike asked.
Great walked over to their table and sat down with them. They all talk and smiled, and finally for the first time they saw Great smile. They had so much fun that it was time to go to bed already.
…After dinner…
They all went back to their rooms and slept, except for Golf.
Golf looked up at the moon and thought to himself, “When will it be the day when Mike and I see you again dad, will you ever come look for us?”
“Hey why are you still awake?” Cee said.
“I just can’t go to sleep yet,” Golf answered.
“I know that you made up that paradise thing to Mike,” Cee said.
“How did you know?” Golf asked.
“Because if it wasn’t made up, you wouldn’t have left when we were taking about it,” Cee said, then asked, “why did you said that to Mike?”
“Because I didn’t want him to feel sad, I know that it will hurt him very much if he knew our mom is died and will never come back,” Golf said as his eyes begin to water.
“It made me feel happy when I heard of the place you called paradise, I thought that if it really was true, then one day I’ll be able to see my mom again, but I guess it will never be true,” Cee said in a voice that sounded like he was crying.
“Sorry to give hope to you and destroying it,” Golf said.
“Naa…I don’t mind I knew it that I will never see my parents again, I knew it’s the day my mom took me here,” Cee said as he began to cry.
“Why were you here in the first place?” Golf asked.
“After my dad died my mom and I suffer through a lot of things until she couldn’t take care of me anymore and brought me here, I knew it’s that moment that I will never see her again,” Cee said as tears ran down his cheeks.
“I feel sorry for you,” Golf said.
“So why are you here to, I know that there is something you are hiding?” Cee asked.
Golf looked at him and said, “The reason why we’re here is because we ran away from home.”
“Why?” Cee asked.
“After our mom’s death, our dad got remarried, we were torture every day until our grandma’s death, then we knew we could stay no more, so I decide to take my little brother and runaway,” Golf said as tears ran down his cheeks too.
“Every body in here has lost their moms and dads and had no where to go, but most are very luck because people come and adopted, but some of us are never luck and will always be in here forever,” Cee said.
“So how all of you ended up here?” Golf asked.
“Well, I have been in here for about 2 years, Ken has been in here ever since he was born, Ice came a years after me, and Jay just came 6 months ago,” Cee said.
“How the others ended up here too?” Golf asked.
“Ken’s mom left him here like me too, but he was lucky he never saw his mom’s face so he didn’t miss her that much, about Ice…umm… I remember he said his parents died in an accident and Jay, both his parents’ divorce and no one wanted to take care of him so they drop him off here,” Cee said.
“Oh…my…, I thought it was only us who had the bad luck, but now I know that everyone has their own luck and faith,” Golf said.
Cee and Golf looked up at the moon then looked at each other; they both gave a giggle then went to bed.
…At Tae’s house the next day…
“Chai, Chai, where are you? I need a ride to the temple,” Pham said.
“Madame, where do you want to go?” Chai asked (a servant in the house).
“Hurry up, I need a ride to the temple,” Pham said angrily.
“Ok,” Chai said as he went to open the door.
They drove off to the temple. Finally they were at the temple.
“Excuse me, where is the Great One,” Pham asked.
“Oh, the Great One is have a meeting with the other monks,” a gardener said.
“Umm…have you seen two little boys around here lately,” Pham asked.
“Oh, no today is my first day here, sorry if you have any question you can come back next month and talk with the monk,” the gardener said.
“Why not this week?” Pham asked.
“Because they are constructing another temple to honor the king so they will be at a different place for awhile,” the gardener said.
“Sorry to waste your time,” Pham said.
“It’s okay,” the gardener said.
As Pham left she thought to herself, “Where could those two have gone to?” She came back to the car and drove off.
…At the Department of Adoption…
“Hey kids wake up, time for breakfast,” Mrs. Bua said.
They all got out of their beds, wash their face, and dress. They went to the cafeteria for breakfast. They all sat down at the table, then Great came over and sat with them. Mrs. Bua had something to tell them all.
“Good morning kids, today is a beautiful day outside to go play, also your teachers are here to teach you today,” Mrs. Bua said. Then she left and the kids had breakfast.
“How are we supposed to know which class to go too?” Mike asked.
“Everybody has almost the same teacher, and they only come till 12:00, then they leave,” Jay said.
“So we all are in the same room?” Golf asked.
“Yes, except me and you, Golf,” Cee said, “since we’re older than all of them we have different teachers.”
“Don’t worry, it’s just 3 hours until we have lunch, and the teachers only come Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays,” Ice said.
“Okay, time to go to your classes,” Mrs. Bua said, then came over to Golf and Mike, “Do you know which class to go to?”
“Yes, Cee will show us the way,” Golf said.
“I hope you like it here,” Mrs. Bua said then left.
They had so much fun in every class that it was already lunch time. Golf thought to himself that even if their dad doesn’t come and find them, that place is good enough for them, but suddenly Golf saw that Mike was nowhere in sight.
Chapter 5: The New Family
“Where is Mike?” Golf asked Ken.
“Oh…a parent came and took him with them, they said they were going to take him and go shopping,” Ken answered.
“What, he left with a mommy and daddy?” Ice said.
“Yes, I heard Mrs. Bua talking with them two days ago that they wanted a little boy,” Ken said, “I think Mike is the chosen one.”
“Why Mike, why not someone else?” Golf said.
“Don’t worry Golf, they will send Mike back,” Cee said.
…After lunch…
“Hey Golf, Mike came back?” Cee yelled.
“Where did you go to?” Golf asked.
“I went with Mr. and Mrs. Chasawong, they took me and bought me clothes, and they bought you this, here P’Golf it’s the book you always wanted,” Mike said.
“I don’t want it, don’t ever go with people you don’t know again, okay,” Golf said yelling at Mike.
Then Golf went to the corner and sat down. He holds his legs and put his head on his knees. They couldn’t see, but Golf was crying.
Mike went over and said, “P’Golf, if you don’t like it then I won’t go anymore, please don’t be mad at me.” Mike started to cry as he put his hand on Golf’s back.
Golf looked up and hugged Mike, he said in tears, “P’Golf’s sorry na…P’Golf didn’t mean to yell at you…P’Golf was just worry, P’Golf sorry na Mike.”
Cee, Jay, Ken, and Ice went over and they all hugged.
…The next day…
After lunch, they all went out to play, but Golf just sat alone and did nothing. Golf looked at Mike having so much fun with his new friends.
“P’Golf, what are you doing over there (Great said as she walk over to Golf), why don’t you go play with Mike and them,” Great asked.
“I just don’t feel like it today,” Golf answered to Great.
“Where did Mike go yesterday?” Great asked.
Golf was about to answered her when Mrs. Bua called Golf over.
“Golf, come here I want to talk to you,” Mrs. Bua said.
“Sorry Great, I have to go over there, I’ll come back in a little bit,” Golf said.
Golf went into Mrs. Bua’s office.
“What did you want to say to me Mrs. Bua,” Golf asked.
“I think you know why Mike was gone yesterday right,” Mrs. Bua said.
“Yes, I do,” Golf answered her.
“I’m sorry to say but they want Mike,” Mrs. Bua said.
“What do you mean they want Mike?” Golf asked.
“They want to adopt Mike as their child,” Mrs. Bua said back to Golf.
“Why Mike, why not someone else?” Golf said crying.
“I know that it will hurt you to know this, but it is our job to find loving parents for every child in here,” Mrs. Bua said, “and also they like Mike very much.”
“Does Mike really have to go with them?” Golf asked.
“Yes, they are willing to take good care of Mike,” Mrs. Bua said.
“Is Mike really the chosen one…Mrs. Bua,” Golf said.
“Yes, they have been looking for a child who would touch their hearts and finally they came upon Mike as the one they choose,” Mrs. Bua said.
“Will they love him?” Golf asked.
“Don’t worry, they will love Mike,” Mrs. Bua answered to Golf.
“Are they rich?” Golf asked.
“Why you asked that?” Mrs. Bua said.
“Because I don’t want Mike to suffer like this anymore, I want him to find a family that willing to love him and keep him happy for the rest of his life,” Golf said as he wipe his tears.
“Yes, they are, they help our Department of Adoption for many years, they give money to rebuilt buildings, to hire teachers and to support our kids in here,” Mrs. Bua said.
Golf thought for awhile and looked at Mrs. Bua again and said, “I am willing to give Mike to them if they are willing to love him and keep him smiling everyday even if I’m not there.”
“Yes, they will love him very much since they have no child of their own,” Mrs. Bua said.
“Mrs. Bua,” Golf said.
“Yes,” Mrs. Bua answered.
“Let me explain everything to Mike first so he won’t get mad, I’ll make sure he leaves with them,” Golf said as he turned around.
Golf came out of Mrs. Bua Office.
Great quickly ran to Golf and asked, “What did Mrs. Bua said to you P’Golf?”
“She didn’t say anything, she just asked if we like it here,” Golf said in a very low tone.
“How come you look so sad is there something wrong?” Great asked.
“No, it’s just that I’m homesick that’s all,” Golf answered.
“Oh well, cheer up now, you have all of us to play with and we are all a big family,” Great said smiling to Golf.
“Hmm...,” Golf smiled at her.
…After dinner that night…
They all went to sleep except Golf; he was looking at the moon again.
“P’Golf, why are you still awake?” Mike asked.
“Mike, come over here, P’Golf have something to tell you,” Golf said.
“What is it?” Mike asked.
“Tomorrow, remember that you and I are going to go shopping with Mr. and Mrs. Chasawong, okay,” Golf said.
“I thought you told me not to go with people you don’t know, so why are you going then?” Mike asked.
“Just do what I said okay Mike,” Golf said angrily.
“Okay, but P’Golf, what will give me for my birthday tomorrow?” Mike asked.
“Tomorrow you’ll see the gift Mike,” Golf said.
“Okay P’Golf,” Mike said, “Can you sing that song mom sing to us once again?”
“I will Mike, but this time, remember to keep this song forever with you okay,” Golf said.
“I will, I will,” Mike said.
Golf began to sing the song, “…Sing dee dee tee pau koey saun, look poo chai hua jai taung grang…” even though Golf was singing the song to Mike, in his heart he was crying. In his mind the only thing going on was how would he explain everything to Mike?
…The next day…
Mr. and Mrs. Chasawong came and took Golf and Mike to the Mall.
“Here this is the mall, we own this place and we have over thousands of business going on each day, over there is the best restaurant in Bangkok, we’ll go and celebrate your birthday over there” Mr. Chasawong said.
After the celebration, they gave Golf and Mike a tour around all their malls and to their company. Golf could see that they love Mike, and Mike would be very happy with them.
After they spend the whole day with Mr. and Mrs. Chasawong, they came back to the Department of Adoption. Golf knew in his heart that this was the final moment, the moment that will last forever in his life time.
“Mike did you have fun today?” Mrs. Chasawong asked.
“Yes, I did, it was very fun, and the cake was delicious,” Mike said happily.
“I’m glad you had a lot of fun Mike,” Mr. Chasawong said, “from today on you will have everything you ever wanted.”
“What do you mean?” Mike asked.
“Sorry can I take Mike outside for a little while?” Golf asked.
“Sure, since it’s the final moment,” they both said kindly.
Golf took Mike outside. Golf’s eyes were watery, and his heart was beating very fast as he said out, “Mike you have to go with them.”
