because that's how it is already, if given the choice, would u really give up some of your money to benefit people all around you? give the money to improve the roads and constructions in order to improve everyone's lives...it may not directly affect you but it does indirectly affect u. if your answer is yes, but how do u know everyone else will think the same as you...? and i think that's why, it's not really ur choice to choose how much u should be able to pay for tax, ultimately, no one (using this word very loosely, because i know there are many humanitarians out there) wants to give up their money to better other people's lives before themselves.
I'm surprised you have such a negative view in the world. With this logic, you shouldn't bring a child into the world. :^P

Oh... have you met my girlfriend DFEMC? So you think she does the good deeds she does because she is forced too? :^P

There are lots of humanitarians. I think the reason some people are unaware of them is because they like to remain silent. Sometimes the publicity of doing good can be seen without have to tell others.

There are a lot of people who do good. How do you think this website runs? We are all here because we are helping to keep this community running. We all contribute in our ways to help make this site better. With SarN's name, we would have never had this forum to visit, without Darvil's technical prowess, we would not have had this site. Without Nounning's moderation, we would have advertisement spams all over the forums about viagra and penis enlargements and a few mortgage lender sales pitches that we wouldnt' want to be here.

There are lots of good things people do, that we take for granted. You may focus on the leeches who steal music and videos clips from those with hearts to share, but I am impressed with peeps like Tina, Bunni, Peaches, and Dedeman who provide entertainment to the masses without much recognition or expectations...

yes it sucks because i am not qualified for the assistance. what happens when i'm right in between the qualifications, so then, because of certain "rules" i'm deemed unqualified. so i'm left with no medical assistance and i'm left with no food stamps. (from previous examples) because i'm not pregnant nor under 19 i'm not qualified for the medical insurance assistance, because i work more than 20 hours because i need to make money to pay for food, transportation, etc., i'm considered unqualified for food stamps. so now, i'd have to pay for the bread and cheese for my breakfast, lunch and dinner just like u do. therefore, u are privileged to be paying .005% tax and i'm punished to be paying 10%...how is it really justified for those that are in that situation, they're stuck and they've never opted to be poor, lower salaried, not owning properties to sell.
You make the assumption that providing more money to the broken system will make it better right? Why do you think charities are created? Because people take their own time and invested interest to make changes. You are agree that the federal programs suck, and yet you want me to put more money into it? <smirks>

well, like i said, people who doesn't need assistance get the assistance, and those who really do need it, aren't getting it because they're "unqualified", isn't that something?
And there are times, when they may deserve it though. They put the tax money in... they want to enjoy it too. :^P (my turn to play devils advocate)
as for the radio, the panel is broken, it'd be a while til we can get the new panel so yeah, wait on man. ;)

Well dyno seems we share some similar beliefs. I for one am more of a Libertarian then either demo or repub. But I don't see how any of their ideas can ever work in our society.

I'm against big government in general but its only because I think they hurt our society more then they benefit. But there HAS to be a healthy government size. As to that size we can debate that and its going to be one that can never ends.

Lets be real, the republicans may say they are for small government but they have NOT followed this principle. Sure they cut taxes but it becomes unfair when Bush approves every bill that came into his office and letting pretty much all pork barrels through. I honestly don't think the democrats could have ballooned the size of our government to this level if they had been in office for the past 8 years. In some ways I am looking at our current scenario like what happened in the UK after WW2. The thing was, even though Churchill was a hero to his country, they realize that he wasn't the right man for the job after the war (and no I'm not comparing him to Bush). I think in some ways we are at a similar crossroad. I don't think Mccain is right for the next few years due to a few of the reasons I mentioned on the other thread which was deleted.

I'm all for social programs but only if they are proven to work. With the amount of abuse though, I have a hard time being a cheerleader for it. Fact is the government is not responsible with our money (lets be real, would you be more responsible with your money or someone's else?). But then there is that dilemma of helping people in the society who truly needs a hand. I want to give that hand out but I am not sure the government is the right way to do it.

Now for corporate welfare. I think we should have funding to help small businesses succeed but I absolutely am against welfare for corporations. These guys already have all the connections in our government to be in favorable positions. I can tolerate that much but begging for our money is just sickening. I think using public money to fund these massive bloated corporations is a disgrace and I honestly don't believe saving them is suppose to be better for us. Letting some of these big boys die just means opening the market to smaller more nimble businesses to fill in the void. But I am sure that either party would have done the same thing so I'm not exactly faulting a certain group. Fact is, this is how our country is setup to run and I don't think we can really change that aspect of it. At least not for a while.

Dyno I'm going to have to disagree with you on the statement you made about the 5 dollar tax thing. You said noungning could get social programs although she may pay a bigger portion because of her lower income bracket. But those social programs wouldn't be there for her IF we were all equally paying 5 dollars. The government wouldn't have the cash to create those programs. Personally I think taking a percentage of your income is probably as fair as you can get. Sure we are probably never ever going to see the fair tax implemented but I think its is probably as close as it could get. The way I see it, if a poorer person pays his tax, he might not be able to buy that new TV he wanted. For a richer person he can buy the TV but he won't be able to buy that new porche. So in my view the suffering is similar in their own bracket.

Finally I would like to say why can't we just have a government that uses common sense and create programs on simple logical argument? For example, why the hell do we keep pouring money into Ethanol? Yes I see the reality of the big corn states and all the fat interests intervening for ethanol. But why can't we put money into things that make sense? Like pouring money into more research for better ways to get our energy? As Friedman said, the new economic miracle is going to be the country that dominates this new field. Its going to be similar to what the computer industry did for the US economy.

I would like to say to the democrats, why are you against nuclear energy? France gets 70 percent of their electricity from nuclear energy. Is France just better then us or smarter? Why the hell can't we do this if they can? Why the scaremongering?

I would like to say to the republicans, why are you so against universal health care? Alot of other countries provide decent health cares for their citizens AND uses LESS resource then the US percentage wise. Are these Europeans just smarter then we are? Why the hell can't we do this if they can? Why the scaremongering?

i'm glad u've realized i'm not a positive person ;)

and oh dear, if i'm not ready i'd not be idiotic enough to let that happen.

Oh... have you met my girlfriend DFEMC? So you think she does the good deeds she does because she is forced too? :^P
i truly believe she'd be offended by your statement, from what i can remember she doesn't even want to chat on this forum because u exist.

and did u not read? if i've not mistaken, i did say, i am using the term loosely because i know there are many people doing things because they want to do it, not because they are forced to.

There are lots of humanitarians. I think the reason some people are unaware of them is because they like to remain silent. Sometimes the publicity of doing good can be seen without have to tell others.

yes, u are right, there are lots of them, but not enough of them. like i said, and like many people has already mentioned, if they have to think about others before themselves, that's not going to happen, it's always going to be about me first...then family, then friends. then when they have some time and availability they'd opt to help. and u know with various duties and responsibilities, some just doesn't have the time to go to the nursing home to assist those lonely elders...so do u think, since they have no free time, they'd just pull out their checkbook and write up a large sum of money to donate to the nursing home? sadly, that doesn't really happen does it?

well, in some cases, there are smart people whom decide to donate to charities to avoid giving all that money in taxes to fund the government's egotistic views of "saving another country". i'm talking about $50,000+ donations, for example we had founders day at the office i worked at, where millionaires came to listen to speeches and whoop out their checkbooks to donate to the hospital.

yes, sarn did run this site throughout the years from the kindness of her heart and her passion for entertainment. i guess u don't understand, this is her choice, she wants to do this, no one is forcing her. same goes with darvil, tina, peaches, cecilia, dedeman, and soooo many more people who's contributed to this site throughout all these years, especially those whom also donated for things that they don't really have to if they didn't want to. but again, do u really think the small population of users that contribute makes up for the majority of forum? we have 10k+ members, about 15% are actively contributing by posting, uploading and etc, and with this percentage, i may be even too generous. ur example again favors my theory, they have a choice, sign up as a member, u can contribute to dl or u don't have to contribute to dl... and end result is... there are more leechers than there are uploaders. because it's a choice, people chooses not to do it. they rather just read or just download and not bother to share their stuff and inputs.

and in this example, ok there may be some people who'd like to remain silent as a contributor, those coming on to the site, creating some traffic, those donating to our forum when we're in need. and yes, of course we thank them since their visit, even as a guest keeps our forum's statistic up.

in the end, u should see that even this, there are smaller "humanitarian" (giving/contributing) than there are those simply leeching. so this is why i say taxes are imposed for a reason right? if the residents and citizens of the US aren't forced to cough up parts of their earnings to help the overall population of the USA, then hey we might as well just float in air and not eat nor shit because we are taking up property of the USA and using the government's sewer... and if u use septic, it's being pumped and eventually dumped into government waste.

You make the assumption that providing more money to the broken system will make it better right? Why do you think charities are created? Because people take their own time and invested interest to make changes. You are agree that the federal programs suck, and yet you want me to put more money into it? <smirks>
:) well, this is because the proposal is vowed to commit changes, changes to this system which will benefit the middle class and lower, not only aiming towards minute lower income individuals so i will be benefited by this.

and how do u think charities begin? charities are usually developed to find a cure for XYZ because their loved ones are affected by this disease or whatever it may be, it usually has to do with personal interest, this is why it began and has developed to become a giving charity to those other children or adults affected by whatever the charities are developed for... for example breast cancer, it's developed to make other women aware that you don't necessarily have to be old to have this, u must be checked, it's developed to help others, but do u think that had no one had this cancerous disease from the beginning, this charity would've developed?

And there are times, when they may deserve it though. They put the tax money in... they want to enjoy it too. :^P (my turn to play devils advocate)

:^(
so because u are floating in air, i'm assuming that u aren't able to enjoy those paved roads they've built with our tax money. ;)

Oh and have you watched Rak Ter Soot Rak with Pat Napapha and Por Th(sp?). Haven't watched anything in a while... and enjoying it.

sorry, i don't watch lakorns, and haven't done so for some time now so i have no idea what u're talking about. i'm trying to listen to more music tho because i've been dling so much crap and not listening to it... gotta love torrents. :D

yes darvil, and this is when he said people should be able to contribute their money on their "own will" without being "forced"... because that's their money and they shouldn't be forced to help anyone they choose not to. and where i say choice can't be an option here because when given a choice, they opt not to do it.

well i just want to share something.. as election day is closing in and people have all sorts of agreement and disagreement.. well there's this group of people from an offtopic forum that i visit daily that likes to do these experiment and most of them are jokes and what not.. maybe you guys heard of them? their famous one was when they had like 30 or so people dress in blue and khaki and one by one or small group at a time walk into best buy.. well you can imagine what happen right? lol they video taped it... on youtube if you want to watch..

but anyways.. one of the guy wrote this today..

“Here is a creative approach to redistribution of wealth as offered in a local newspaper...

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' I laughed.
Once in the restaurant my server had on a 'Obama 08' tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.”

^^ the example doesn't really show the concept to the same light as what the proposal is said to do though, and that's why people would get the wrong idea, hence, thinking that conceptually it sounds good, but when applied it doesn't work the way it sounds.

i say this because, in my opinion, this proposal is supposed to help everyone that isn't making $250,000, or selling properties, winning the 50 Million jackpot and what not to earn that much money. people who work, u, i, or anyone that grosses less than that will get that "tip" because we are in that lower bracket.

it's just silly because that example kind of makes people who works their ass off for money, like truck drivers, plumbers, construction workers, mechanics, engineers, pharmacists, nurses, residents, designers, architects, accountants, scientists, chefs, and ALL those other people that doesn't make more than $250,000 look like beggars simply because they are benefiting from the tax increase imposed on those making more than $250,000. i'm aware that after they work in the industry for 10s of years, they may be one day affected, but the truth is, not a lot of people are making that much if they've just been in that field for 4-5 years, and not a lot of sane people are selling their properties at this time, unless they live in binghamton, ny, amarillo, tx, charleston, wv, and etc because their property's value is rising... and well of course, if they divorce, have a death, an illness...blah blah blah.

Here is FACT CHECK from lastnight...

(Read and think carefully before voting, a word it's just a word. It's can be twist, turn and bend to suit one needs when needed be. Obama wasted millions to buy his 30 minutes, instead of redistribute to spread the wealths to those that really needed  ^_^ and what makes everyone think that he wouldn't find a way to collect his millions back once and IF he is elected? ^_^ )

Obama's prime-time ad skips over budget realities

WASHINGTON – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama's assertion that "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond" the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by "eliminating programs that don't work" masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are — beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

A sampling of what voters heard in the ad, and what he didn't tell them:

THE SPIN: "That's why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year."

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it's not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

___

THE SPIN: "I also believe every American has a right to affordable health care."

THE FACTS: That belief should not be confused with a guarantee of health coverage for all. He makes no such promise. Obama hinted as much in the ad when he said about the problem of the uninsured: "I want to start doing something about it." He would mandate coverage for children but not adults. His program is aimed at making insurance more affordable by offering the choice of government-subsidized coverage similar to that in a plan for federal employees and other steps, including requiring larger employers to share costs of insuring workers.

___

THE SPIN: "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost."

THE FACTS: Independent analysts say both Obama and Republican John McCain would deepen the deficit. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama's policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years — and that analysis accepts the savings he claims from spending cuts. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, whose other findings have been quoted approvingly by the Obama campaign, says: "Both John McCain and Barack Obama have proposed tax plans that would substantially increase the national debt over the next 10 years." The analysis goes on to say: "Neither candidate's plan would significantly increase economic growth unless offset by spending cuts or tax increases that the campaigns have not specified."

___

THE SPIN: "Here's what I'll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year. Give businesses a tax credit for every new employee that they hire right here in the U.S. over the next two years and eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Help homeowners who are making a good faith effort to pay their mortgages, by freezing foreclosures for 90 days. And just like after 9-11, we'll provide low-cost loans to help small businesses pay their workers and keep their doors open. "

THE FACTS: His proposals — the tax cuts, the low-cost loans, the $15 billion a year he promises for alternative energy, and more — cost money, and the country could be facing a record $1 trillion deficit next year. Indeed, Obama recently acknowledged — although not in his commercial — that: "The next president will have to scale back his agenda and some of his proposals."

you didn't get the concept of it ning.. the guy was a begger and the other guy did make more money.. the bottom line was distribution of wealth..because the server was wealthier then the begger in terms of financial... he may not make 250,000 but compared to the begger he made banks..

see this is what i dont get. you believe that not a lot of people are making 250,000 so you believe it's OK for them to share their profits? it's ok because they are the minority.. that's total socialism.. and another thing.. it is sad to think that rich people don't work their ass off just because they aren't doing hard labor...

but whatevers.. only a couple of more days... i already turned in my vote yesterday..

i understand the concept, but i'm just saying that the example doesn't do justice...simply because it doesn't. it's true distribution of wealth should be distributed to all and in a way it is. since it is used to build many new highways, bridges, used to rescue people whom declared state of emergencies, and many many more.

ok, i don't want to sound like it's OK to share your wealth just because you're rich... but it's fair to pay more taxes because you make more money. and that's the way it works... i put my fair share in, so those making more should also put in their fair share too. fair, meaning, being affected by being taxed to the same extent that i am.

where in the world did i say people making at least $250,000 doesn't work their ass off?

are u kidding me, i work with physicians, a majority are directors, and my former boss is associate chair of the department and also the director of research. he did A LOT of administrative work: research, manuscripts, also teaches, give speeches, is a part of many committees and etc, but he also does clinical and lots of it too, which i'm quite amazed at how his time/life is managed. working in emergency medicine, i see loads of physicians and they are ALL always busy, they eat a small bag of chips for lunch, drink loads of coffee and never sleeps. so i see how hard they work their asses off. it's one thing just looking at physicians in a clinic, and actually working with them... it may seem they only do checkups and write prescriptions to make all that money, but that's not the truth.

while there are some fortunate ones, those american celebrities making the big bucks by just being on tv or those that inherit their wealth, that's kind of different but they are also working their ass off in their light too since they work their ass off to look pretty, get fit and in shape to dance on stage or act on screen...but they are making a hell of a lot of money, so since they are, they are to contribute fair share in taxes also.

maya_fantasy - fact check... i'd answer longer but too tired...

the truth is inevitable, they both are going to make the nation's debt increase. but the outlook is, amongst the 2, who will be the one creating the debt for non-issues and who will be creating debt in hope to improve how life is lived the way it has been since forever. again, weighing in this versus that, because in the end both candidates aren't the best choices, but that's something we can't change right about now... just looking to see how one person can make things better, or if one person can make it worse? then if u think they're equal after multiple debates, then start pulling your ideas comparing it to the candidates ideas.

ok, i'm tired. if i didn't make much sense, um... o well lol.

how is it not justified? the server is rich to the beggar's standard is he not? the guys making 250k a year is rich to our standard are they not? so simply the joke was a joke to show what it feels like when someone else makes a decision to distribute money that would had been yours, money that you worked for just because you're classified differently... that was all it was trying to say.. nothing more nothing less.. people love the idea of higher taxes for the rich simply because it doesn't take away from them but benefits them.. the others dont like it cus it affects them, it takes away from them.. it's easier to cheer for it when you're not affected.. just like those without insurance are cheering for universal health care while some that do have it don't want it cus they love the choices.... you cheer for things that benefits you and protest against things that doesn't.. it's human nature.. it's greed...

and thank you for bringing up examples of physicians.. yes they do work hard right? 12-16 hrs a day 5 days a week.. so is it fair that they have to pay higher taxes cus some of those specialist does make over 250k.. examples neurosurgeons. way more then the cut off.. so they're working their ass off for those money only to have to pay higher taxes.. is that fair?

higher taxes doesn't solve everything and it doesn't solve all if it's not used in the right way.. we as working americans and legal residents are taxed enough.. what we need to focus on is how the government use those tax money.. i say a high high percentage of it are used for stupid things..

Since Obama raised so much money and McCain raised so little. How about Obama practice what he preach by distributing some of those money to McCain?

it's not justified because it's only giving a narrow view of the situation, u know how some people tends to put blockers on... hold up both hands, open palms, fingers close together, place left hand to the left of your left eye, right hand next to the right of your right eye...blocking every other aspect out... the waiter, is in the end paid, he's given hourly pay in addition to tips, well unless he works at some asian place... that's another case.

taxes affect everyone natty, it's not just u either. this is why i don't understand why u say i'm partying and raving that i want u guys to get higher taxes so my taxes will decrease... my tax will still be the same too. and if i make more money, i'm taxed more too. i'm being affected just like u are. which we've discussed numerous times...

i don't know, but i've talked to a few docs and they were for the universal healthcare too. and this is wayyyyy before it's gotten this far. as i've mentioned before, it will affect them directly since this means their pay will not be as competitive as it is now, and many more other factors... rise in visitations because everyone can now, because they can afford to.

higher tax is never fair, and i've told u before, i just want equal tax percentage... but like u've said, it doesn't work that way.

and that's exactly the problem, the tax money is being used for unreasonable things, it just seems like they don't think of the PEOPLE, the citizens... just them, their fame, their face.

warning, very long, and off topic, don't need to read if u don't want to lmfao. :p

this reminds me of something from today actually. we have a new ICCU and CCU, the building is so pretty, the design, the staff rooms, conference rooms, many bathrooms for physicians so they don't have to share with the public, locker rooms, the patient rooms, computer installation, the views on one side is so nice...it's lake view! there's many counters and sections for nurses and physicians, a lot of area space to cater to the demand from medical equipments, the flat screen tvs in every patient room, and full bathrooms and shower in every room. everything was wonderful in the physicians' and nurses' aspect of it, they get their many areas, storage, counters, locker rooms, conference rooms, etc. but they don't really think of the patients... besides from the rooms looking absolutely stunning compared to regular rooms, the patient waiting area... very small and is located on one end of the unit... it has 2 public restrooms, both at single stalls. and it's located in the waiting area... of the bigger part of the waiting area, they're going to be looking at a plain wall because the tv is on the other side where the coat hangers are and where there's about 5 chairs. the floor of the ICCU and CCU very lengthy, because of the city, the design of the building is long and narrow so the floor runs very long. i'm not sure of the exact numbers but i'll add a picture to get the idea... and the other main thing is... they do not know how patients will have access to this building from inside the hospital as of yet because there basically is no way yet!!! haha it's crazy... the way we got into it was going into secluded employee only areas to get there, the person demonstrating the tour said that's what we will have to figure out which has not yet been thought about. while they've thought about every single thing to please the physicians and nurses, make the rooms for the patients very nice and open. but they haven't even thought of how they'd open this building for public access within the structure itself... the only way public can get into this section is by going outside of the main hospital, and walking into this new building...it's just idiotic! one waiting room area for family members per floor, oh but there is a room they call a waiting room if you don't wanna sit in that one all the way down the hall...but this one just has chairs and 4 walls about a 8 x 8 room, restrooms for public is wayyyy at the end [because they don't want public to share physician restrooms], so when someone needs to really pee, they'd have to hold it in and run down the corridor to wait because someone else is using the toilet lol... insanity. high tech, physician friendly, nurse friendly, rooms accommodating to patients, but not so thoughtful of family members and patients seeking help...and from what i can remember from the tour, there's only 1 entrance... as if u're at the mall, the way it's designed forces you to walk by every single section of the floor.

here are some pictures of it. can't really find much info besides it's built for $70mil and about 51,000sq ft per level, which now i'm not sure after reading the site by the managers... ok anyway, i'm gonna go to sleep now, goodnight.

Since Obama raised so much money and McCain raised so little. How about Obama practice what he preach by distributing some of those money to McCain?
i'd say the same with cindy mccains wardrobe and palin's wardrobe. save the money and distribute em over ladies... and same goes to obama's infomercial... but then the answer for these can simply be...well elect me first "gosh darnit". ;)
