I am having my first baby. She is due is December and I am excited. Problem is I am finding it very hard to come up with a unique hmong-girl name. I don't want to name her Mai or Paj or all those typical names. I know our Hmong language has more beautiful words than that! I just can't think of any. I welcome any suggestions that you all may have. Looking forward to your replies!

Umm...you already looking or a name? Shouldn't you just wait until that day? I don't think I would want to start picking a name now before the baby is born. There is just this thing about baby muaj kev tu siab, and then becomes sick. If you decide to pick a name now, then you hav to use it and don't change, that is if you're superstitious about Hmong beliefs. If might affect the baby's feeling. I think in a way, it's like promising giving a candy to a kid. If you break you that promise, the kid might become angry. In other words, it's like breaking a promise with someone. My cousin is pregnant, but is superstitious about this Hmong beliefs. When asked, she said it's not good to find a name before the baby is born.

Well, it's up to how people feel.

My name's Bai. I have no idea what that means though. O_O
Hmong girls rarely have this name, as I've seen so far. I've only
heard of myself and two other girls. So yeah.

I don't like the name though. People at school go "Eww, you're BAI-sexual?"
Or they go "Bye bye Bai. Ha, ha, ha."

Keep that in mind. ;)

You don't have to have an English name either when you name your kid... Didn't the most of us grow up with a Hmong name anyway? The only problem I had with a Hmong name is that sometimes teachers in school couldn't pronounce my name correctly... but we can always correct them too khekhekhe....
good luck finding a name for your baby... But I think I have to be greedy and keep my name ideas until I have little ones in the future :D hehehe..
