despite the fact that we're only four years apart, my brother is kind of like my son. i looked out for him when we were growing up, while my parents worked. so, he responds to me. this year, he's made me proud. he's shown huge signs of maturity and has actually been doing well in school.

three years ago, however, i couldn't even picture him getting anywhere. my parents didn't have much time to be all lovey dovey with us so we grew up rather unaffectionate. technically, it was normal for an asian family not to show affection. but for my brother, we moved out of the asian community when he was only 3 and settled near a lot of white people who hugged and kissed for every little thing. haha as a result, he always wondered why other kids' parents were at every little event cheering their kids on, hugging them, and loving them, crap like that, but that he wasn't even allowed to join any extracurricular activities in general. "mom and dad only care's about work! they don't want us to do anything! i want to join the football team!" and so on. it was drama for nothin' (well, not nothin' but you know...). haha

either way, it was my fault he turned out all spoiled and senseless. i gave him things to compensate for what he didn't have...material things...and just did EVERYTHING for him...filled out all his forms (even his college app...), etc.., but he was not learning any responsibility. i was lucky he even took what i had to say about college seriously. i had a serious talk with him right before the "college" talk so he started perking up.

i told my brother a lot of things when we had our "serious talk", especially about how he was gonna have to start depending on himself because people around him won't live forever. and how one day, there will even be people who will not just depend on him, but will put their lives in his hands. i'm not sure what he was thinking at the time but when i told him that i was going to be moving to another state afterwards, he kind of freaked out. cuz i was like his little advisor/agent or whatever. lol

anywho, i raised him wrong. i know most of u are thinking...that it wasn't my responsibility to "raise" him, but growing up, we didn't have much of a choice. some people here can relate. my parents sweated blood just to get us living comfortably. i wouldn't have asked for better parents.
and honestly, i'm not in the position to be buying anything. but at the same time, i don't want my brother to give up on his ambitions when it took so much just to get him to even think about his future at all. he hasn't asked anything of me in a long time, not like he use to. now i know he's a little more grown up, so im gonna give him a game system so that he can be a kid again. LOL makes a lot of sense.

so yeah, has NOTHING to do with this thread, but HAPPY EARLY NEW YEAR!!
