Yeah, Natwara's character in here is the jealous type bitch who only goes after the rich guys for her own pleasure and happiness. She was engaged to Nadech but had a relationship with Pope. I didn't mention it in the story but Pope was once a really rich guy who has now gone bankrupt. She also secretly had a crush on Mark so she took advantage of him to take responsibility of her baby.

Chapter Four

They say blood
is thicker than water. Though not brothers, Mark and Nadech grew up together
and developed a brotherly bond that they never would imagine end as it did.
They grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same school, graduated from
the same university with the same degree and dated a pair of beautiful sisters.
Now that their love relationships ended and their brotherly bond is no longer
the same, their past feels like a dream.

It was
especially hard avoiding each other at work. As a matter of fact, it was
impossible. As co-owners of Regalia Hotels & Spa, Mark and Nadech saw each
other every day multiple times a day. Their offices were right next to each
other and since the management board works as a team, communication was necessary
and crucial. The only problem was they now often disagreed with each other’s
opinions and disapproved of one another’s actions.

“I don’t agree.”

Everyone hears
that a lot from Nadech now and Mark knows too damn well that he does it on
purpose. Mark’s ideas didn’t seem to appeal to Nadech anymore.

“That location is
too busy,” said Nadech. “It’s hard to get in and out. People will be
frustrated.”

“That’s not the
point,” said Mark. “It’s right in the heart of Bangkok and will be a
convenience to tourists.”

Everyone else at
the long, polished wooden table exchanged looks with each other. Meetings like
this usually ended in agreement between the two owners but now it seemed like
it would be ongoing. They had been on this same subject for months. Yes, months.
It had been several months since Chalida’s death. Several months since the
cancellation of Nadech and Natwara’s wedding. Several months since their lives
changed.

“There’s already
too many hotels in the heart of Bangkok,” said Nadech. “In addition to the busy
and dangerous intersection, there are too many flaws in this location.”

“There’s many
hotels already but not a Regalia,” argued Mark. “If we open a new, modern,
upscale five star hotel, it would be a tourist magnet.”

“But…

Their argument
was interrupted by a phone call and the ringing was coming from Mark’s pocket.
Everyone looked at him in blankly as if expecting him to ignore it.

“Sorry,” said
Mark.

And he ignored
it. Not only that, he silenced his phone.

“If there is
urgent personal business to tend to, we can put this off to later,” said
Nadech.

“I don’t think
that’s a good idea,” said Khun Pisanu, the company’s head broker. “If we want
this area, we must seal the deal as soon as possible. We only have few days
time to decide because we’re not the only ones looking at this location.”

There was a soft
knock on the door and Mark’s secretary stepped in to politely tell Mark that
Natwara was waiting outside the meeting room. All heads turned to Mark. Nadech
looked annoyed. Silencing his phone wasn’t the greatest idea because Natwara
was standing outside in the hall right now.

“Tell her I’m
busy,” Mark commanded his secretary, Air. “I’m in the middle of an important
meeting.”

“You shouldn’t
let a pregnant woman wait like that,” said Nadech. “She’s your wife and
carrying your child.”

Mark felt really
uncomfortable now. Nadech always had to use this line against him and each time
he said it, Mark just had this urge to punch him in the face.

“We shouldn’t
put this matter off again,” said Khun Pisanu. “I heard an American businessman
was also looking at that land. If we don’t hurry and decide, we could lose a
lot.”

“I agree,” said
Khun Wayo. “We’ve wasted a lot time on this location.”

Mark and Nadech
looked at each other.

“I don’t want
that location,” said Nadech.

“But that’s a
very good location!” exclaimed Mark, standing up.

Mark wasn’t
going to give in easily. This company was theirs and they both had equal rights
and shares. Mark wasn’t going to let personal problems interfere with work.

“Let’s do a vote
then,” said Mark. “We’ll cast anonymous ballots and let Khun Air count it to be
fair.”

Khun Air was
Mark’s secretary. He would have count the votes later.

“Fine,” said
Nadech.

Finally, the
meeting was over. There were 14 votes total, all written on a small blank white
piece of paper and folded into a small box. To play it safe with Nadech, Mark
gave the Khun Pisanu the box to pass on to Khun Air.

“When do you
want to announce the results?” asked Khun Pisanu. “I suggest that we do it as
soon as possible.”

“I’ll leave it
to you to decide that,” said Mark.

“Mark.”

Mark turned
around to face Natwara. Khun Pisanu politely greeted her and walked off.

“What took you
so long?” asked Natwara.

Mark let out a
huge sigh.

“I was busy,”
replied Mark. “I was in the middle of a meeting.”

“Is that meeting
really more important than our baby?” asked Natwara.

“Shouldn’t you
be at the hospital?” asked Mark. “You’re going to be late for your
appointment.”

“That’s what I
came here for,” said Natwara. “You must go with me. We’re finding out the
gender of our baby today.”

“You should
really go,” said Nadech, walking towards them. “You’re both in this together.”

“Nadech, why did
you repeatedly turn down that location?” asked Mark. “Not only does that make
us look but it also wastes a lot of time.”

“Because I
thought that location is very suitable,” replied Nadech.

Mark didn’t
reply. He didn’t want to make scene at the moment. Instead, he followed Natwara
to the elevators. She was already running late for her appointment.

When they got to
the lobby, Mark stopped in his tracks and told Natwara to go ahead and wait for
him in the car.

“Why?” asked
Natwara. “We’re really running late now.”

“I just need a
little bathroom break,” replied Mark.

“Are you
nervous?” asked Natwara.

“Huh? Uh…yeah,”
answered Mark. “Go ahead, I’ll be right out.”

When Natwara exited the building, Mark took the elevators back up to the
executives floor and burst into Nadech’s office.

“What are you
doing?” asked Nadech, looking up from his binder.

“Look, I know
you’re still angry at me,” began Mark. “If you wanna curse me, punch me, go right
on ahead because I feel very guilty and uncomfortable when you say those
things. Moreover, you shouldn’t let this problem interfere with our work. It
has been three months and nothing has changed. In fact, it has gotten much
worse. I know I am at fault but you don’t have to act this way. I’d rather you
kill me than say things like that.”

“If you’re done
talking, you may now leave my office,” said Nadech, after a long moment of
silence.

It was as if he
was pondering and trying to process the words that Mark had just said. Seeing
that his confession didn’t do any good, Mark bit his lip, nodded his head, and
left.

Mark and Natwara
showed up half an hour late for Natwara’s appointment. The doctor had already
called in the person with the next appointment so Mark and Natwara was
instructed to wait.

“I’m going to
run to the restroom,” said Natwara.

Mark nodded and
found a seat in front of the check-in desk. A television on the health channel
was talking about paternity tests. Suddenly, Mark’s eyes widened. Why had he
not thought about it before?! A paternity test was the only way to find out if
the baby was really his. Not that he didn’t trust Natwara but he didn’t trust
himself. He had been unsure about it all along and now was the time to prove
it. Mark jumped out of his seat and approached a nurse who had just walked out
of the examination room.

“Excuse me ma’am,”
he said. “Is there any way possible to get a paternity test done without the
mother knowing?”

“The only way to
do so is to wait after the baby is born,” replied the nurse.

Mark’s heart
sank. He didn’t want to wait another four months.

“Can’t we get it
done any sooner?” asked Mark. “It’s just that I want to prove to my mother that
I am the father of this baby. My mother doesn’t approve of my girlfriend and…

“I understand
where you’re coming from,” said the nurse. “Yes, we could perform a procedure
called amniocentesis but it’s much safer to wait until the baby is born.”

“Oh,” said Mark.
“Okay, thanks.”

“You’re welcome,”
said the nurse, strolling away.

For the sake of
the baby’s health, Mark decided he would wait until the delivery day. It would
be another overwhelming four months but there was no alternative choice. Four
months is four months.

Chapter Five

A boy. Finally, they had learned the gender of the baby.
"You don't seem very excited," said Natwara, in the car after they had left the hospital.
"Well I mean it doesn't matter if it's a boy or a girl," said Mark.
Four months from now, Mark would know if he had really fathered this baby boy. Until then, there was no reason to be happy or joyful because his life had been meaningless since Chalida's death.
"Is it really that hard to put up with me?" Natwara asked. "You seem like you don't care at all. I mean, is it really that difficult?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," replied Mark. "If I didn't care, I wouldn't have taken responsibility."
"Well you don't have a choice anyway," said Natwara. "This baby is yours whether you like it or not."
"Look, I don't want to have this conversation," said Mark.
"If you had agreed to marry me a few months ago, we probably wouldn't have this problem," said Natwara.
"I told you I'm not ready," said Mark. "Let's just stop talking about this."
"Fine," said Natwara. "Can I just ask you one question? Do you love me?"
"No," replied Mark.
A surge of anger flooded through Natwara. She balled her fists and nodded her head slowly.
"I didn't ask for you to love me anyway," said Natwara. "Too bad you don't have a choice."
Mark turned and looked at her. He realized that she was no longer the sweet Natwara that his best friend had once dated. She was no longer the sweet Natwara that was Chalida's older sister. Natwara was a totally different person.

Mark dropped Natwara off at her house and headed back to the company, where the voting results would be announced. Turns out, the majority of the executive management board voted in favor of his idea. Nadech didn't seem too happy about it but since he and Mark had equal shares of the company which also means equality of power, Nadech couldn't do anything about it. Besides, Khun Pisanu had already set an appointment with the landlord of that location to close the deal.
Mark was about to turn around and leave when his secretary stopped him.
"Sorry but I just received notice that Mr. Harding will be flying in tomorrow," said the secretary.
"Has a limo been set up to pick him up at the airport?" asked Mark.
"No sir, I haven't had the...
"It's alright, I'll do this myself," said Mark. "I'll pick him up tomorrow. Send me an email including arrival time and I will take care of everything else."
"Ka," replied the secretary.
"If don't have the time, you don't have to do it," said Nadech. "I can arrange for someone else to retrieve Mr. Harding."
"Mr. Harding is a very important business partner," said Mark. "I feel like I should take care of this myself."
Nadech smirked and walked away.
"Wait," said Mark, walking up behind Nadech. "Four months from now, we might be in for a little surprise."
Mark smiled and walked off towards the elevator. Nadech thought for a moment but he didn't understand what Mark was implying. A surprise of what? Then, it hit him. Of course, Natwara should be giving birth in four months!

Can't wait! Geez, Natwara is so annoying, I don't even care that she is pregnant anymore, how could she do that to her own sister?

Mr. Harding's flight was scheduled to arrive around late afternoon and it was only a few hours upon his arrival that Mark learned Mr. Harding's two daughters would be coming too. Last minute hotel reservations and arrangements for the two young ladies were taken care of immediately after Mark had gotten off the phone with Pisanu.
Natwara called Mark early that same morning as he was getting ready for work. He was just about to answer when he thought it better to ignore the call because right now, Natwara and the baby were not the most important thing in the world. Mark adjusted his tie, put on his jacket, and left his house before Bpa Sri, his nanny, could ask him a question.
"Wonder where he's hurrying to," said Bpa Sri to herself. "My poor young master."
"If it's not to Khun Natwara," said Noi, a young servant in Mark's house. "Honestly, I doubt that baby in Khun Natwara's belly belongs to Khun Mark."
"Really?" asked Bpa Sri, putting her hands on her hips. "How would you know?"
"Well think about it," began Noi. "Our young master loves Khun Chalida more than anything else in the world. How is it possible that he could make a mistake with that...that witch sister of Khun Chalida's? Who knows? Maybe Khun Natwara set up the whole thing."
Bpa Sri thumped Noi on the forehead.
"Nee nae! This is for your ridiculous assumptions," said Bpa Sri. "If Khun Mark hears this, he will be very unhappy."
"I was just saying," said Noi, massaging the spot on her forehead where Bpa Sri had hit her.

Natwara called Mark not once or twice, but multiple times before she decided to go up to the company and confront him. As she stomped up out the elevator, she had run straight into Nadech, her ex-fiance. It was an odd moment before either of them started speaking.
"Well," began Nadech. "If you're looking for your baby's father, he isn't here this morning."
"Where is he?" asked Natwara, looking past Nadech in case Mark was lurking around the corner somewhere.
"You're his wife not me," said Nadech. "If he didn't tell you, what makes you think he would tell me? I'm not his owner."
Natwara pushed him out of her way. She continued down the hall to Mark's office anyway. Turns out, Mark was not in his office. Natwara whipped out her cell phone violently from her purse and cursed under her breath as she scrolled down to call Mark. Again, there was no answer.
"Are you sure that baby is his?"
Natwara turned around and Nadech was leaning coolly on the side of door of Mark's office. He wore a nasty smirk on his face and the last thing Natwara wanted to do right now was be in the same room as him.
"I don't have time to answer your foolish questions," replied Natwara.
"If that baby is his, he wouldn't ignore you like this," said Nadech.
"What did he tell you?" asked Natwara, in an anxious tone.
Perhaps, they knew something that she doubted they knew.
"Nothing," replied Nadech. "But it seems that he really isn't into you so I was just assuming."
Natwara smirked and walked up to Nadech. She leaned in close to him and tiptoed so that her lips were level with his ears.
"Or maybe you're just jealous of what he has," she whispered to him.
Natwara pushed him aside and left Mark's office.
Anger built up in every part of Nadech's body. Maybe he loved the wrong woman the whole time.

Mark walked up to greet Mr. Harding and his two daughters as they exited the gate. They shook hands as Mr. Harding's two daughters whispered excitedly.
"I'm Prin Suparat," said Mark with a smile, introducing himself to the Hardings. "Welcome to Thailand."
"Brent Harding," said Mr. Harding. "And these are my daughters, Kim and Yaya."
Mark smiled and nodded professionally at the two young ladies.
"Sawadee ka," said the sisters simultaneously.
"Your Thai is very good," said Mark.
"Well we are part Thai," said Yaya.
"Really?" asked Mark, surprised.
"Their late mother is Thai," answered Mr. Harding.
"Oh," said Mark.

After taking care of the Hardings, Mark arranged a welcome dinner for them in which he and Nadech would take the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new business partner. He suspected that if called Nadech, he probably wouldn't answer so Mark instead, sent him a message via text to inform him of their important dinner later that evening.

"He is soo handsome," said Yaya. "Don't you think so?"
"I didn't know that Dad's business partner was this young," said Kim. "I wonder what the guy named Nadech looks like."
"Let's google him!" said Yaya, excitedly.
"Do you think that is even possible?" asked Kim.
"Don't know if we don't try," replied Yaya, smartly.
And she whipped out her iPhone and googled "Nadech Kugimiya".
"Oh goodness!" she exclaimed. "He is a cutie too!"
They both giggled loudly in the bookstore.
A few rows away from them, Mark was looking at pregnancy books. Since he never had the time for or interest in Natwara, he decided to provide help to her by buying a few pregnancy slash parenting books. That was the least he could do as a responsible "father". Plus, they weren't even legally married or living together so it made him a tad bit more comfortable if she had those books.
"Khun Prin?"
Mark turned around and was surprised to see the Harding sisters.
"Hi," he said.
"Oh, are you going to be a father?!" asked Kim, excitedly.
Yaya nudged with her elbow.
"Uhh...I'm just buying these...
Mark didn't know how to reply as he was even 100% sure if the baby was his.
"No," he said finally.
He wasn't even sure if he was lying.
"I'm buying these for a friend who's expecting," he told the sisters.
"Girlfriend?" asked Yaya.
"No," said Mark automatically. "She's just a friend."
Mark noticed the books in their hands.
"So what brings you ladies here?" he asked them, changing the subject.
"Oh, we'd thought a few English-Thai dictionaries could help us out while we're here," replied Kim.
"Yeah, didn't think we'd run into you though," said Yaya.
"Yeah, what a coincidence," said Mark.
It was awkward.
"Why don't you help us pick out our dresses for tonight?" asked Kim.
"What? Huh?"
Mark was stunned. They DID NOT just ask him to do that.
"Yeah, that would be cool," said Yaya. "We try things on and you can tell us if it looks good."
"Right," said Kim. "We're having dinner with you anyway."
Before he could answer them, both ladies had dragged him by each arm, out of the bookstore after he had paid for the pregnancy books. Mark checked his watch. It was only three more hours until the dinner reservation he had made at the hotel. Now, he was unsure if he would have the time to drop off those books for Natwara.
"How about this one?" asked Yaya, twirling in the royal blue dress at knees length.
"It's nice," said Mark, standing there holding their shopping bags.
"Okay, I'll take this one too," said Yaya, followed by a wink.
She pranced away from the mirror and back into the dressing room. Then, Kim appeared from the adjacent door in an ivory dress.
"Is this one pretty?" she asked Mark.
"Yeah," replied Mark.
It was too long, thought Mark to himself. As she did with the other dresses, Kim twirled once and accidentally fell into Mark's arms. Their lips barely touched and they gazed deeply into each other's eyes. She was incredibly beautiful, thought Mark to himself.
"What is this?!"
Mark looked up and in the mirror was Natwara's reflection. She was standing there fuming behind them and Mark was pretty sure she had witnessed the whole thing.

Chapter Six

"What do you think you're doing?" asked Natwara.
"Who are you asking?" asked Kim, in a somewhat rude tone.
"Khun Natwara," said Mark. "What are you doing here?"
"If I hadn't come here, how could I have witnessed this?" she asked in an angry remark. "Who is this naa daan woman?"
"Naa daan," Kim repeated. "What does that mean?"
"It means thick faced!" exclaimed Yaya, bursting out of the dressing room.
She was clutching the front of the dress so it wouldn't fall off.
"How do you know?" Kim asked Yaya.
"I looked it up just a little while ago," replied Yaya. "I was about to change back into my clothes but I heard you guys out here arguing and...
"That's enough," said Mark, at Kim and Yaya. "Please leave this matter to me."
"Who are you?" Kim asked Natwara.
She completely ignored Mark.
"I'm...
"You seem like pregnant woman in need of a father for your child," said Kim, before Natwara could even answer.
Natwara smirked.
"I'm sorry for you but this man IS the father of my child," said Natwara.
Kim and Yaya turned to look at Mark.
"And why would you be sorry for me?" asked Kim. "I'm the one that should be sorry for you because it seems like...he's just not that into you."
"Mark! Are you just going to let this bitch talk to me like that?" asked Natwara.
"Or, is it true?" asked Yaya.
"Mark!"
Mark closed his eyes for a few seconds and shook his head.
"That's enough, Khun Nat," said Mark. "You need to leave. You can't talk to them like that."
"Mark! I am your...
"Yood!" exclaimed Mark. "Before you say anything else, I just want to remind you that we have relations whatsoever so I am not obligated to do whatever you desire."
Kim and Yaya smirked back at Natwara.
"Just go," said Mark. "Don't cause a scene up here. It brings upon a bad image."
Natwara cursed him and cursed the two Harding sisters. Then, she angrily stomped out of the store. Mark turned to face Kim and Yaya.
"I must apologize on her behalf for what happened," he began. "She's...
"She's pregnant, we know," Kim finished.
"And you're the father," added Yaya. "Really though, are you?"
"I...uh...yes...no...yes....NO!"
Mark suddenly had a massive headache.
"No," he said finally. "Let me make this up to both of you by inviting you ladies to lunch tomorrow. Is that okay?"
"Okay," said Kim.
"One more thing," said Mark. "May I please ask you ladies to keep this incident between us? Please don't mention it...
"We won't," said Yaya.
"Chai," agreed Kim. "It's not like it's our problem."
Mark believed that they wouldn't. It was a terrible situation but what could be worse? His life already sucked badly at the moment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dinner that evening turned out to be a breeze. There were no problems. Even Mark and Nadech were on the same page. No difficulties or hesitations. Mark guessed it was probably due to Mr. Harding's presence. Since Pisanu had already closed that deal on the location they were contemplating about earlier, Mr. Harding agreed to invest in the company's business. A success for both Mark and Nadech.
The whole time while the guys were having their business discussions, Kim and Yaya whispered excitedly to each other and giggled every once in a while. Their father, Mr. Harding, finally seemed to notice his daughters' behavior when dinner was almost over.
"What are you girls chit chatting about?" Mr. Harding asked his daughters. "Matter of fact, what did you girls do today?"
Kim and Yaya turned to Mark, who shifted in seat a little. He hoped that the ladies kept their promise.
"We went shopping," replied Yaya.
"Yeah and we ran into Mr. Prin," added Kim.
"Oh yeah?" their father smiled.
"Yeah, he was kind enough to show us around and even helped with picking our dresses for tonight's dinner," Kim explained.
Mark hoped that they would stop there.
"It was a...pleasant shopping experience," said Yaya, winking at Mark.
"Well...that's nice of you, Mr. Prin," said Mr. Harding. "Thank you for taking care of my daughters today."
"Er...you're very welcome," said Mark. "Anytime."
Nadech looked lost so he just sat there and smiled.
"Don't forget about our lunch tomorrow," said Yaya.
"Oh come on now," said Mr. Harding. "Mr. Prin's got business to tend to."
"Oh now, it's fine," said Mark. "I actually invited them to join me for lunch tomorrow."
"Great," said Nadech.
All heads turned to him.
"I'll join too."
"Okay," said Mr. Harding. "I would join you guys too but you probably wouldn't want this old man to spoil your lunch."
He chuckled and his daughters laughed while Mark and Nadech shot suspicious looks at each other.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What were thinking?" Mark asked Nadech later after they walked the Hardings out after dinner.
"I'm the one that should be asking you that," said Nadech, coldly. "Natwara went up to the company early today to look for you."
"And?" asked Mark.
"And she's the one you should be taking care of," said Nadech.
"Alright, I'm tired of you pushing me around with this Natwara thing," said Mark, raising his voice slightly. "I know you're angry me, alright? I'm angry at myself too. I'm probably more angry at myself than you are angry at me. Just give me another four months and I can probably prove to you that I'm not the father of that baby. Something inside me tells me that I'm not. Honestly, if I did something to her that night, wouldn't you think I would remember it? The thing is, I don't remember do anything to her at all."
"That's because you were drunk," said Nadech.
"Yeah and so was she," said Mark. "How can to drunk people end up...like that and she's the only one that remembers what happened?"
Mark shook his head and went down the steps, leaving Nadech there stunned. Maybe he's right, thought Nadech to himself. His argument made perfect sense.

When Mark was halfway home, he turned on his cell phone to see nine missed calls from Natwara. He had turned off his phone earlier during dinner to prevent any interference with their meal and business discussion with Mr. Harding. Mark decided to return her call just in case she was in trouble.
"Where are you?" asked Natwara. "Why didn't you answer my calls?"
"I was...
"Oh, chai si," said Natwara, cutting him off. "You were probably busy with those two girls."
"Khun Natwara!" Mark exclaimed through the phone. "It's not what you think! You have no right to talk about those two ladies like that. They are the daughters of my business partner and...
"And what about me?!" shrieked Natwara. "I am carrying your child!"
Mark held the phone away from him. He refused to let her attack him with the same lines again. Instead, he ended the call and turned off his cell phone, again. At least he knew that she and the baby were both fine. That was the most he could do.
