Well hello!! In the past I have written about some of my favorite lakorn KuKwans like Ateam, Tik and Aom, etc. I couldn't leave Yadech out because I love them as much! Therefore I will be having them in this fan-fiction. The concept is a little confusing, trust me, I had to revise it a few times in my head/paper to have it make sense. I haven't written in a while so please mind my grammer/spelling mistakes.

Secondly, this fan-fiction's setting is in Min Island and Yasortorn...I know the island doesn't exist but because of GRGR, it exists in my mind. LOL. I love Min Island a lot, its so pure, peaceful, and beautiful. I wanted another love story on the island. LOL. If you have seen Luerd Kattiya with Aom Piyada and Tik Jesadaporn you would know what Yasortorn is. It is the Kingdom in Luerd Kattiya where Anothai and Princess Darakumari sacrificed their love.

Like mentioned in the Topic Description, this is a period/romance, the year will be 1805 and so on.

CHARACTERS: NADECH KUGIMIYA, YAYA URASSAYA SPERBUND, POPE THANAWAHT WATTANAPHUTI, JA JITTAPA JAMPATOM

CHAPTER 01: ON DANGEROUS GROUNDS

THE KINGDOM OF YASORTORN

Flames blasted out of the wok, Yaya steps away with caution. “Smells excellent.” she told the woman who was adding more herbs into the wok.

Yaya sat on the stool provided by the stall outside and began eating away; she was too hungry to even care how she looked as she started gobbling plate after plate of food. Her trip from Min Island to mainland Yasortorn has been too long, this was her first meal in a foreign place, and it was to her, delicious.

After breakfast, Yaya continued her journey by foot, on the dirt road she walked, unfamiliar with the people and culture of Yasortorn. This was her first time in Yasortorn, voluntarily sent there alone by Min Island’s crown princess Ja Jittapa to purchase the best silk and study the fashion culture of Yasortorn. Yaya’s mother is a well-known seamstress in Min’s court; she passed down her gift of sewing to her daughter who also works for the palace as one of the best seamstress on Min Island. As seamstress of the palace, Yaya is designing all future dresses for the crown princess, including the most valuable wedding gown the crown princess will wear when she and the crown prince of Yasortorn marry. It was her mission to create a beautiful wedding gown for the princess, using ideas from both Yasortorn and Min Island.

For the next two days, Yaya observed what the citizens of Yasortorn wore. Yaya drew many designs onto her sketch book for future ideas. In Yasortorn, lots of goods came from outside of the kingdom, everyone dressed to impress, wearing only expensive things. Most women were in long dresses that covered their feet, very plain but elegant with beautiful lacing on their sleeves and collars. Because this Kingdom is big on trade, most men around were merchants and sailors, even they were dressed well, wearing boots up to their knees, button up jackets or suits. Yaya was in heaven, she has never been so inspired. Meanwhile, many knew she wasn’t from Yasortorn. Yaya wore a shorter sarong and flowered shirt, in fact all her clothes was colored with beautiful beach flowers. While all citizens of Yasortorn wore shoes similar to flats, Yaya was still in her gladiator sandals.

It has been a whole week since she first came to Yasortorn, on the morning of her last day, after breakfast Yaya continued to explore the kingdom for the last time. Again she was on the dirt road with a map in hand, far from the town she was just visiting; she was headed back to the boat dock to catch the noon ferry back to Min Island. The dirt road led her deep into the forest, too far from anyone.

“I know I’m not reading this wrong…unless…this means-“

“Are you lost?” The person’s voice from behind, startled her.

She turned around quickly and was confronted by four men, she spoke clearly to trick them into thinking she was confident. “I know where I’m going, thank you very much.” She lied.

“Eh, you’re not from here, are you?” stepped forward one of the men who seemed to be the leader of the group.

Yaya didn’t answer him and stepped back but he slowly walked to her.

“I was just going to ask if you would like a personal tour guide.” He grinned.

Yaya grinned back at him. “In fact, I am about to leave so a tour guide would be unnecessary.” She turns and starts picking up on her walking.

They follow behind. “I knew you weren’t from here, you have an accent trying to speak our language. You’re a woman traveling alone. Aren’t you a bit scared at all?” said the leader of the gang. “We can protect you…”

Yaya begins to walk faster, they run and gets in front of her. Yaya pulls out a small knife from her dress pocket. “I was trained to use this!”

“I was trained to use this!” the leader mimicked. “Rough, now I really want to know where you are from, where the hell does a place train their women?” he laughs. Two of the guys reach for her arms but Yaya slashes them both with the sharp knife in one rotation.

“Ah!!! Boss, she wasn’t lying, I’m bleeding, really hard too!” cried one of the men, now holding his bleeding wrist. Both the men retreat back to their boss.

“You idiots, how can you be afraid of a woman like this?!” He hits them both with slaps to their faces. Giving full attention to Yaya again, him and the other uninjured man walks towards her, she steps back with her knife held high, looking back and forth from one man to the other, making sure she caught whoever’s first move. Yaya takes a swipe at stabbing the boss when he attempts to grab her but misses, while the other guy grabs both her wrists from behind. He twists her hands so hard until she drops the knife onto the ground.

“Get your hands off me!!” she screams out. Yaya struggles to break away with her hands bound behind her back.

“Ever been with a man from Yasortorn? We are most experienced; I’ll make sure you remember this.”

Yaya spits in his face, he slaps her so hard across the face the man from behind wasn’t able to hold on to her tight enough having her fall to the ground in front of his boss. He brings her to her feet again, her cheek red as can be but she wasn’t close to crying, she was a strong girl.

“Bastard…” she finally uttered.

“You’ll have one as your son…” he chuckles. The leader punches Yaya in the stomach before she could kick him. She drops to the ground, face first.

A powerful voice roared from behind them. “HEY! What are you four doing over there?!”

They all turned around to find some members of the Yasortorn royal army but most importantly it was Crown Prince Thanawaht who was with them on horseback and the one speaking to them.

“Speak! I have asked a question and expect a truthful answer out of it!” yells Thanawaht.

The four men fell to their knees in front of Yaya’s body to hide her presence. “Your highness, please forgive us, we were wrong. Please spare us!”

“I have never accused you of anything, those came out of your own mouths, and I was simply asking what you were doing but since you insisted on doing something wrong, come forth to admit your crime!”

The boss sighed with discomfort and crawled to the side to reveal Yaya’s unconscious body lying on the ground behind the four of them. The only other person on a horse was behind Thanawaht’s horse, Nadech leaned to his side to get a better view of the colorful sarong and flowered shirt on the woman who was lying on the ground.

“You will be punished for your crime, using force to abuse a helpless woman! I can’t spare you for such thoughtless shame to the kingdom! Arrest four of those men and take the woman back to camp.”

While some royal soldiers arrest the four men, Nadech jumped off his horse. He begins walking towards Yaya, his high leather boots made a squeaking noise as he takes each step. With hair nicely combed to the side and in royal uniform, he looked like a prince himself.

“What are you doing cousin?” whispered Thanawaht.

“Surely, the girl will not be riding with you, right?”

Nadech continues to Yaya who was lying unconscious on the ground even after the four men were taken into custody; he knelled and turned her around. Judging by the clothes she was wearing he knew exactly where she was from. Nadech lifted her up in his arms and makes his way back to his horse. Nadech gets back on his horse while another soldier lifts Yaya’s lifeless body onto Nadech’s horse, seating her sideways in front of him. He wrapped his free arm behind her head and placed that hand around her small waist pulling her closest to his chest to support her from falling over. Yaya’s head lay on his arm as they begin their journey back to camp. On the way there, her loose hair flung up, hitting him in the eyes a few times. Really, he couldn’t help but look down at her face, the slap she received earlier left a big bruise. He noticed the silver necklace around her neck which identified her as a servant to the royal family of Min Island.

“All the way from Min Island...”

Yaya opened her eyes and looks up to see a blurry image of Nadech looking down at her necklace. She felt the pain of her stomach again and fell back asleep.

AT THE CAMPSITE-IN THE NURSES TENT

Yaya’s sleepy eyes begin to open when she finally opened them Pope was by her bedside smiling down at her.

“You’re awake.”

“Where am I?” she gasped, “Where are they?” she sat up quickly, her head hitting him right in the nose.
Thanawaht’s image turned blurry for a second due to the hard hit but he finally snaps out of it. “Calm down, no one is going to hurt you.” He covers his nose with his hands.

“But those four men who-“

“No need to worry, they were all arrested.”

Yaya sighed with relief then began looking around in the tent they both were alone in. “I can’t stay here; I must catch the last ferry back!” Yaya jumps out of bed and runs out of the tent. The sky was pitch-black filled only with stars. “No…” she whispered.

Thanawaht steps outside. “I’m afraid the last ferry left already.”

Yaya turns around and gasped, “Your nose…you’re bleeding really hard.”

Thanawaht wipes his nose and saw the blood stains on his hand and chuckles. They go back into the tent and Yaya assists him. She wipes his bloody nose with towels, pressing it against his nostrils to stop the bleeding.

“I’m sorry. I hit you pretty hard.”

“It’s alright.”

Thanawaht intended to take the towel but accidentally grabs her soft hand. For moments they stare at each other.

“Thanks…for making my nose bleed.” He joked.Yaya frowns, trying to not make eye contact. “But really thanks for the help.” He releases her hand.

“I…I think I need to get some fresh air…how about you?” she clears her throat. Yaya walks out of the tent before he could say anything else.

Thanawaht comes out of the tent to join her outside. “You said earlier you had to catch the last ferry, where are you from exactly?”

“Min Island…but I wouldn’t know where it’s located from here; there is forest everywhere you turn."

Thanawaht smiles. “Well, you are in my country’s largest forest. And your home doesn’t have forests like Yasortorn?”

“It does but mostly we are surrounded by the sea, everywhere is water.” She said it so dreamingly.

Thanawaht smiles at the way she says it. He wasn’t sure if any woman in Yasortorn wore their hair like hers, curly and all over the place, he was finding her breathtaking by the minute.

“I wanted to thank you, sir…for earlier…if you weren’t there, I would probably be in a lot of trouble…even shameful to return home.”

“Sir?”

“How impolite of me, how can I not ask the person who saved me their name.”

“No no it’s not that…’Sir’…no one has ever called me this before…you sure you never heard or seen of me?” Yaya shakes her head, she really didn’t know. “I am much more powerful than a nobleman.” He hinted.

“What is your name then?” she asked.

“My name is-“

A whisper from close by was calling for him. “Your highness….where are you?”

Thanawaht panicked, he was having a little fun with her not knowing, now he didn’t want Yaya to know he was the crown prince of Yasortorn just yet. He coughed loud enough for Yaya not to know someone was calling him ‘your highness.’

“Carry on now…” He pushes her back towards the tent. “Just call me Sir for now…Yes, I better get going too, its late and you should get some rest.”

Before the sun was fully up the next morning, Thanawaht picks Yaya up and throws her on his horse, she gets startled, this being her first time on the animal.

“Uh…I don’t know how to control this thing…”

“Don’t worry.” He jumps up and sits behind her.

Yaya shyly looks straight ahead. “W-Where are you taking me?”

“You’ll see. Keep it quiet, we can’t let others wake up.” He whispers.

He takes her to a waterfall far from the campsite. He jumps off his horse and reaches up for Yaya’s hand. She smiles and takes his hand.

“It’s beautiful!” She runs to the banks of the waterfall.

“I’ve had enough hunting days, and a day without bathing is very irritating, how about taking a dip in the waterfall?” He takes off his shirt and jumps into the water. “Come! It feels great!” He swims around then goes under.

Yaya sits on a big rock and dips her toes into the water. Indeed it felt nice. A hand grabs her ankle and he dragged her down in the water regardless of how much she pleaded and screamed not wanting to enter the water. All morning they spent bathing in the water until they went to rest next to a fire he made. Drenched in water, she was fully clothed while he dried his shirt.

“Aren’t you drying your clothes?”

“No…I can just sit by the fire, I’m shivering already…you know, I can’t call you Sir forever if we are to become friends.”

“Are we friends?”

“I would like to think that…besides, you saved my life, how can I not know my savior’s name?”

“My name is Pope.” He gave her the name only his immediate family uses, citizens of Yasortorn call him only by his first name Thanawaht.

“Pope, that has a better ring to it then Sir.” She smiles.

“And yours?”

“Yaya Urassaya.”

“Has an even prettier ring to it.”

“Should we go back? I still need to figure out how to get to the port.”

“I have people who know their way around; I’ll have a map given to you.”

Yaya tries to stand up but instead slips on a slippery rock and falls backwards, luckily Pope was there to save her from completing her fall. She looks up at him, as embarrassed as can be; she didn’t know it he was completely falling in love with her. She knew something clicked inside too. Back at the campsite, everyone was prepared to head back to the palace; Yaya insists she wasn’t returning to camp, she wanted to return to the ferry so she could get back to Min Island as soon as possible. Just outside of the campsite they say their goodbyes.

“…I guess this is goodbye…”

“For now…”

“Right…Thank you…for everything.”

“I hope I can give you a proper tour of Yasortorn when you return.”

Yaya smiles. “I hope so too. I should get going.” She turns around and returns to her journey back home. Pope watched her as she walked farther and farther away from him. Nadech walks up behind him.

“Have you ever met anyone so incredible before?” asked Pope.

“It’s hard when you only meet people who are in the palace.”

“No…I mean someone who breathes a new meaning into life…someone just like her…”

Nadech clears his throat. “You’re telling me, you are falling in love with someone you’ve only known for a day and a half? Isn’t that a little medieval?”

Pope chuckles. “That was only a couple thousand years ago…who knows.” Pope turns around pats Nadech on the shoulder and walks past him. Nadech stands still, his arms crossed over his chest as he watches Yaya’s figure disappear.

CHAPTER 02: TWO MONTHS LATER…ON MIN ISLAND

Yaya was in the chicken coop picking the eggs she and her mom sell at their market stall every morning. The morning market was beginning to get crowded as stalls opened and shoppers filled the alley ways, like all the other shopkeepers, Yaya’s mother had already begun assisting customers but she was looking both directions for any sign of Yaya’s arrival. Back at the chicken coop, after knelling, Yaya dusted off the dirt on her sarong and shirt. She tied her thick curly hair up in a ponytail, with the basket of eggs ran out the door to meet her mom.

“You’re here, thank goodness, I was afraid you were repeating what happened yesterday.” Reminding Yaya of how yesterday she dropped all the eggs while running.

“I was extra careful this morning.” She lied. Yaya set the eggs on the table. “I’m off to the palace; I finished sewing the dress HRH Ja Jittapa is wearing to the banquet tomorrow night, the crown prince of Yasortorn will be there at the banquet tomorrow night mother, isn’t it exciting?”

Her mother paused, “…H-how exciting…You should get going then. Can’t let them wait.”

Yaya kissed her mother on the cheek while hugging her from behind. Her mother pats her on the cheek. “I’ll be back to help you after I finish.”

Yaya enters the palace gates with the dress wrapped in layers of the extra cloth to keep it from outside dirt. She takes a deep breath, praying the dress will be a hit. Kneeling before HRH Ja Jittapa, Yaya held the dress over her shoulders to the princess. Ja reached out and felt the silky dress with her hands. She was blind and can only feel the texture of the dress; she gave Yaya a big smile.

“Describe the dress to me please.”

“Your highness, Yasortorn is a beautiful kingdom, but most of all, their clothes. Women there always look elegant with their long dresses, beautifully adorn with pearls, gems, anything a woman would cherish. Thanks to your highness, I was able to understand what was the most popular style of clothing there and infuse it with a touch of what we have in our Kingdom…after all, Yasortorn is your future home your highness.”

Ja blushes, thinking about the crown prince of Yasortorn. “Would you do the honor of putting it on for me?”

After putting the gown on the princess, Yaya was surprised how it would turn out, it was magnificent. A perfect fit for the future Queen of Min Island.

“How do I look? Even though I can’t see it with my own eyes, I feel like I’m on top of the world.”
Yaya is overjoyed. “You look amazing.”

“Promise me you’ll be there at the banquet! You’re the only one who knows how to work this dress, besides if I get into any trouble you can definitely help me.”

Yaya steps outside to find another seamstress named Wan waiting to harass her.

“Sucking up to the princess aren’t you.”

Yaya rolls her eyes. “There is no need to suck up to anyone, I would satisfy anyone as a seamstress, not just the princess of Min Island…its called pure talent…something you don’t have.”

Yaya grins at the girl and turns to walk away. Back at Yaya’s home in the evening...

“How did the princess like it?” asked Yaya’s mom when she returned home that night for supper.

“She loved it.”

“I knew it would be a hit, my daughter is the best seamstress in town.”

“I am invited by the princess to attend a banquet they are throwing to welcome the crown prince of Yasortorn. Can I go?”

Her mom dropped the spoon she was holding. “I-I don't see why not...of course, if the princess has invited you, definitely, the princess has done so much for us.”

“Mom…is something wrong?”

“No… my spoon just slipped.” she smiled and continued eating her dinner.

After dinner, Yaya’s mother enters her bedroom and locks the door so no one was able to bother her. She walks to the dresser and opens the first drawer. She digs through layers of folded clothes until she found a big wooden box at the bottom, she sits down before opening the box then takes out a ring. The ring was made of gold but it was so old, even the gold looked as if it was chipping off. She softly sobbed. Yaya walks past her mother’s open window and saw her mother looking at a sewn shirt made for an infant.

“Mom, what are you doing?” Her mother scrabbles to put everything away before Yaya enters her room. “What was that?”

“What was what?”

Yaya raises an eyebrow, knowing something was fishy. “What were you doing just now? Ow, where did that wooden box go?”

“What wooden box? There was nothing. Going to bed yet?”

Yaya nodded, “Good night then.” Yaya tucks her mom into bed before heading over to her room.

The next morning, Yaya finishes folding the clothes; she heads to her mom’s room to place them in the dresser. She opens the first drawer puts freshly dried clothes in. Her hand hits something hard, she looks inside and the wooden box she saw her mom touching the previous night was hidden in the drawer. She looks around the room to make sure her mom wasn’t anywhere in site. Yaya sits on the bed, opens the wooden box and takes out an envelope with a large seal of red wax. The seal identified itself as a royal symbol, Yaya was sure of it but she wasn’t sure where it was from. After opening the envelope and reading the letter she slowly stands up, her face horrified.

Yaya couldn’t go to her mom; the only other person who she could think of was the old woman who ran the town orphanage, besides her mother, Mrs. Simla was closest to them both. Mrs. Simla was her mother’s sworn sister.

Mrs. Simla took off her glasses after reading the letter and sighs. “I knew this day would come…”

“What is the meaning of this? My mother was sent here from Yasortorn as a prisoner?” asked Yaya, she didn’t know if she should be angry, she was more confused than ever though.

“Are you prepared to hear what I have to tell you right now? This isn’t just about your mother, it’s about you too.”

“What are you talking about Auntie Simla?”

After finding the truth from Mrs. Simla, Yaya didn’t go home that night, instead she went to the seaside and sat on the sand, staring at the moon, her eyes red, her cheeks chapped from all the crying. The next morning, the whole village searched all around for her. Mrs. Simla returned the letter and had told her mother Yaya has found out about everything. It wasn’t until late afternoon did they find her at the beach far from their village. Yaya was still seated on the sand. After everyone left, Yaya’s mother walks to her side and sits on the sand with Yaya. Her mother reached out to put her hands on Yaya’s cheeks and turned her around to look at her.

Yaya’s eyes were puffy from the crying. “I ran away because I didn’t want you to tell me that you’re not my real mother.” She hiccuped. “It had hurt enough hearing it from someone else. I can't bear to hear you say it too.” she cried.

“I’m so sorry you had to find out like this, dear” She hugs Yaya. “I don’t ever want you to stop calling me Mom. And I will never stop calling you my daughter. You’re more than what a mother could ask for. You’re what I live for when I thought I had lost hope in everything.” She releases Yaya from her arms. Yaya looks at her mother’s teary face and wipes the tears away.

“I know about Yasortorn...I don’t care who you are or what you did as long as I can call you mom every day.”

“…But…you need to know…” she clears her throat. “I am a Min Islander, I was born here but I had fallen in love with a man many years ago, I went to Yasortorn with a new life waiting for me, I had hoped a happy one too but I was considered unfit in their society. I…I was weak…couldn’t help the man I loved…I was stupid…couldn’t protect myself. It’s such a blur now, thinking back…I just remember one day…being in the wrong place at the wrong time…I was accused of…m-murdering my husband. So they sent me back to Min Island, that was my punishment...to never return to Yasortorn again, to never see..." she sighs, the last few words, she just wasn't able to utter, they were painful to mention. She was hoping Yaya would say something to stop her from saying anything.

"Yet you were okay with me going to Yasortorn?"

"You have your dreams, I didn't want to come between them. I once had dreams, I understood how far you have to go for them no matter what happens, I wasn't going to pull you away from that."

CHAPTER 03: POPE’S NANGFAH

Early next morning Nadech and Pope begin their trip to Min Island. An island a part of five other islands, Min Island is considered the largest, including wealthiest. The royal family resides on Min Island and is farthest from Yasortorn. Min Island had beautiful beaches, it was a tropical paradise.

On the ship, Pope bends over the side of the ship and throws up. Nadech smacks him so hard on the back, Pope was afraid he would puke out blood. Upon arriving on Min Island, they proceed into a carriage right away. After a long ride, Pope moved the thick open book off his face.

“I feel like throwing up again.” He sighs uncomfortably. “I would have preferred riding on horseback rather than this lousy carriage. Min Islanders are so far from modern society. There are a dozen holes in their dirt roads.” He complained.

Nadech had enough of his complaints but he wasn’t allowed to express his opinions against the crown prince of Yasortorn. “I’m sure the crown princess of Yasortorn wouldn’t want to hear those words from the man she is betrothed to marry in a week from now.”

“And you, how come you aren’t as sick as I am?”

“Don’t you remember? I spent most of my teenage life on a ship.”

Nadech looks out the carriage window and was amazed at the beauty of the island. He’s never seen such a calm and peaceful sea. They were in the forest areas of the island now, approaching the busy afternoon market. The carriage stops. There was a man who controlled the carriage horses and two others who rode on each side of the carriage for both princes protection. One of the horsemen open the carriage and both princes were nowhere to be found.

“Why are we doing this? Pope asked Nadech.

They both stopped on the middle of the busiest street in the town market. Nadech admired the people’s hard work and was about ready to explore more while Pope jumps at the cries of farm animals. They had on the perfect disguise, wearing turbans and dressed in island clothing, oversize shirts with pajama style pants complete with flip flops. No one would be able to tell they weren't from the island and most definitely princes.

“We should head back.” Pope demanded.

“You should head back, I never asked you to tag along in the first place. Have you ever explored anywhere outside of the palace walls? There is so much more to the outside world then the palace."

“But-“

Pope turns to the direction of a familiar giggle, he remembers it. He spots the back of Yaya’s head; she was in front of them, walking farther and farther with another seamstress.

“What’s wrong?” Nadech asked. He looks in the same direction as Pope.

Yaya turns and they both stare at her profile face.

“It’s her…what’s her name…Yaya…” Pope points.

Yaya, Nadech knew who he was talking about now; it had to be the girl he brought to camp two months ago. She was the only one Pope has ever met from Min Island and Nadech knew Pope had something with her when she left Yasortorn that day. Nadech took a better look at her and noticed her hair, all over the place, her mini sarong wrapped around her waist and the flowered shirt, similar to what she had on in Yasortorn. Before Nadech could say anything or stop him, Pope was on his way to meet her. Nadech watches unmoved from his spot as Pope tap her on the shoulder, a big smile lit her face when she saw Pope, but for this moment time stopped for Nadech. It was her smile and laugh.

“This is my cousin, Nadech.” Pope introduces her to Nadech.

Nadech bows like a gentleman. He looks up at her but she only had eyes for Pope, she takes Pope’s hand after she says her hello.

"Ready for a tour?" she asked Pope.

They go off leaving Nadech standing alone. Nadech takes a deep breath brushing off any type of feeling he was having. He was here for a reason; this was to have Pope wed the crown princess of Min Island. As of now, this mission could be destroyed.

The whole day Yaya and Pope spent together, Nadech on the sidelines watching over his younger cousin to make sure nothing alarming happens. She was always smiling to Pope and now him since he acted as their bodyguard. Nadech didn’t know how to smile back, he quickly turned away hoping she didn’t notice him watching her.
Finally Nadech and Pope had to return to their carriage.

“Will I see you tomorrow?” Pope asks Yaya.

Nadech clears his throat as a reminder that the banquet was tomorrow.

“I’m sorry…I have to be somewhere tomorrow.”

“Right…me too, how about the day after tomorrow?”

Yaya smiles shyly. “Okay.”

"Can I ask you something before leaving?"

"What's that?"

"I can-" Pope kisses her on the cheek before he runs away like a little boy. Nadech with his arms crossed over his chest walks to Yaya, turns to her. He was about to say something but words couldn't come out after what he saw. He didn't say a word and left after Pope.

Nadech and Pope make their way back to their carriage; it was still there even after the whole day. The guys fell asleep waiting for the two. They were on their way to the palace now. In the carriage, Nadech is staring out the window again.

“So…when are you going to stop lying to her about how your actually the crown prince of Yasortorn?” Nadech asks.

“After I marry her.”

“You’re here for a reason Pope and that is to marry the crown princess of Min Island.”

“Yes I know…but…this girl…”

“What? You want her as your mistress?”

“I think I love this girl; ever since I met her in Yasortorn…I have never laid eyes on such a beauty.”

“You can’t have her as your mistress.”

“Why?”

“You live once you should only love once.”

Pope chuckles. “Where did you get that?”

Nadech’s father told him this when he was little, it was something he knew was very true, he remembers seeing how much his mother meant to his father, his parents love was only once and forever. He believed in it because they did. Nadech knew Pope was an arrogant person, he hated arguing, plus he didn’t have much say in things, he wasn’t the crown prince of Yasortorn. Still Nadech was much wiser and more athletic than Pope.
The carriage reaches the palace late in the evening. They were both welcomed like princes by the King and Queen of Min Island. Pope like his usual self chats away with his future in-laws. Nadech wondered the palace halls. He stops to look at the stars on the balcony, for some reason this place, the sea, the nature of it all felt more like home then Yasortorn.

CHAPTER 04: THE WEDDING

With their late arrival to the palace that night the banquet was cancelled and the wedding was to immediately be held for Pope and Ja. Of course Pope had his say in this but nothing could be done, his duty to his kingdom was to wed the princess of Min Island. He still questioned himself about Yaya though, he was in love with her, he meant to go meet her and tell her everything but how was he able to find her on this island. He wasn’t able to meet the princess until the day of the wedding, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to, he would replace the princess with Yaya only if he could.

On the morning of the wedding, a long time of practice had Nadech covered in sweat, the clothes and boots he was wearing made it even more irritating for Nadech but he had become use to it, he grew up a prince. With one swipe across the chest, Pope falls to the ground, he touches his chest, and his shirt was cut in half by Nadech’s sword.

“You could have killed me, if I wasn’t wearing a suit under. Actually, it would be rather good if you finished me off. I would rather die now...” Pope said sadly.

“This is only the beginning, its up to you to make your destiny, stand up and fight me." yells Nadech.

Pope stands up. “You really enjoy humiliating me even when we aren’t in the palace. You should let me win just once today, I'm about to marry a woman I've never met.”

“You get a girl and win? You wish!” Nadech cuts his sword across Pope’s chest again. The shirt cut into a big X. “It’s one or the other, you get the girl but you need more practice on winning my cousin.”

Nadech throws his sword to a student standing on the sidelines. Pope stands up, tired and breathless, tired of Nadech's teasing. Nadech wipes his sweaty face with a cloth.

“…I don’t know what to do…”

“What’s that?”

“What if I can never forget Yaya? And I never love the princess; I’ll be miserable for the rest of my life.”

“Everything takes time…you can’t judge the princess when you have never seen her, who knows she could the best thing for you.”

“I have no say in it for my true feelings?”

“I believe over time you’ll learn to love the princess. Who knows if you really love the other girl, your time with her was so fast, you could forget her as fast, with the princess, you will be married for a lifetime, you will have a lifetime to learn from each other.”

The palace has been in hectic mode since the morning of the wedding. Nadech heads back into the palace when Yaya walks right pass him, he turns back a second time to see the back of her head, her hair tied nicely into a bun, she wasn’t dressed like a commoner today, she was in royal servant clothing which made him think he was seeing doubles.

Yaya knocks on Ja’s door.

“Yaya? Is that you?”

“Yes your highness.”

“Come in, Come in.”

Yaya opens the tall doors to the bed chamber and walks right up to the princess, Ja was already in the wedding gown Yaya designed. “Wow, it’s beautiful on you.”

Between them, they were like sisters, not treating each other better than the other, no formalities. Ja felt the dress with her hands, Yaya takes Ja’s hand and trace the collar of the gown with Ja’s fingers.

“I had pearls sewn here…and here…is the lace I bought from Yasortorn, the sleeves are made with lace too. The gown is pure white.”

Ja smiles. “I feel beautiful.” Ja reaches out, her fingers searching for Yaya’s face. Yaya bought Ja’s hand to her face. “I can’t do anything without you.”

“That’s not true, you’re amazing at everything.”

“I want you to promise me you’ll wear the dress I have picked out for you on the bed for tonight's reception.”

Yaya looks over at the dress on her bed. “Your highness, I can’t-“

“Nonsense, I will have you come to the wedding reception with me, I will chain you with me if you oppose.”

“It’s sweet of you but I-“

“From a friend to a friend…please.”

Yaya sighs.

The wedding was before the King and Queen, Ja walks through the doors, two servants holding her hands guiding her way to Pope, Pope with his best man Nadech sit waiting on the ground next to the King and Queen. No doubt she was beautiful, for a moment Pope even forgot about Yaya and his feelings for her. Pope walks up to Ja and Pope reaches out to take her hand but there was no response from her. He was a little confused he clears his throat; Ja slowly reaches out to find his hand. He caught her hand finally realizing she couldn’t see him when she didn't blink once.

“I’m so sorry for my manners, crown prince.” She bows.

Pope looks at her parents and smile; he couldn’t believe he was marrying a woman who will never be able to see him or look him straight in the eyes, thoughts of her beauty vanished from his mind, he could only think of her being blind. Disappointment overtook him.

After the wedding ceremony, a wedding reception was held in the banquet hall. Guests from high officials to other royals attended to congratulate the new royal couple. Yaya made her entrance into the reception; all eyes were turned to her and Ja when they finally found each other in the banquet hall. Yaya was in a lavender long dress, the bottom part puffy like a true princess. Her hair wavy and long. Ja felt Yaya's dress with her hands.

“I’m so happy you made it! And you wore the dress."

Yaya giggles. "Its beautiful, thank you."

"I know it is and now my wedding is truly complete.” Ja hugs Yaya.

“Who is that?” Whispers were everywhere in the room. Yaya felt uncomfortable but she was there for Ja.

“Let me introduce you to the groom nah?”

“Ok.”

Ja grabs hold of Yaya’s hand and with the help of another servant, they both take Yaya across the room to where Nadech and Pope were standing talking with other guests. Nadech turns to see Yaya headed their way, his eyes widen not because he was scared for Pope but because he was impressed with her beauty, now he understands Pope a little better. Yaya sees Nadech and their eyes lock. He doesn’t bother to tap Pope on the shoulder for the trouble Pope will be facing soon. Yaya thought Ja was bringing her to meet Nadech, Nadech was the crown prince but instead the servant who was guiding them brought them past Nadech to Pope who still didn’t know they were just behind him. The servant whispers into Ja’s ear, letting her know Pope was in front of her.

“Your highness Thanawaht.” She called out Pope’s first name.

For a second Yaya was relieved this man was named Thanawaht, not Pope, maybe Nadech was royal but not Pope, Nadech was very high class even at the market yesterday Yaya thought. Pope finally turns around to speak to Ja, he had to take another look at the girl standing next to Ja, it was Yaya. Yaya gasps but not loud enough for Ja to hear, her eyes widen, she now knew Pope wasn’t who she thought he was. Pope drinks the whole glass of wine in his hand. Nadech rubs his mouth from laughter; he really didn’t know how to help his cousin now.

“Your highness Thanawaht, I wanted you to meet the person who designed my wedding gown. This is Yaya Urassaya. Yaya, this is Thanawaht, crown prince of Yasortorn.”

Yaya feeling most uncomfortable couldn’t bring her face up to look at Pope.

Pope clears his throat. “Very-very nice to meet you.” He bows.

Yaya looks up at him finally, her eyes glistening with tears, she bows. “Delighted to finally meet you, your highness.” It was difficult for her to utter the last two words. She felt like a fool.

Pope didn’t want her to find out his way, in his head he devised a plan to kidnap her, elope with her, then tell her who he really was. Even better now, his own wife wouldn’t know since she is blind, this was one of his many stupid plans.

“Princess Ja…can I be excused?” Yaya whispered into Ja’s ear.

Ja whispers back. “Why? I wanted you to meet him and tell me about him, do you approve of him?”

Yaya chuckles, holding back her tears. “Tell you about him? He’s here, he can tell you everything. You stay with him.” Yaya gives Ja’s hand to Pope for him to hold. “Excuse me, please.”

Yaya turns around and leaves as quickly as possible. Pope turns to Nadech and signals him to follow Yaya. Out on the beach, was Yaya's favorite place, in this case, favorite place to vent.

“How stupid was I? I should have known since Yasortorn, no he should have told me! He never once mentioned it…” she sighed. “He’s the crown prince. Oh my God, he’s the crown prince!” she was angry with herself, a fistful of sand in her hand, she threw it towards the pitch black ocean.

Wan, the competitive seamstress walks up behind Yaya. “You’re too filthy to be wearing a dress given to you by the princess.”

Yaya turns around and stands up, the night had already be exhausting enough for her. “Hey, don’t mess with me tonight; I’m not taking your bullshit.”

“I saw how you were looking at the crown prince, you fancy him.”

Yaya was silent for a moment, thinking she threw her cover back at the reception. “Today is the wedding of the future Queen of Min Island, the whole country is celebrating, I’m not letting your crazy assumptions ruin my night of celebrating for the princess.” Yaya walks pass Wan, but a man stands before Yaya stopping her from going any further.

“I’ll be celebrating after I get my title of best seamstress in the country.”

Yaya turns to look at Wan again. “You think this was a competition between me and you? You really are crazy, if you are dedicated to your job, you will find the passion in it, no competition…and no need to use someone stronger to harass me.”

“Right, but I hate everything you design! I was the seamstress in the palace until you stole my job from me!”

“I’m different, I worked hard to get to where I am now; I never slept my way through!” Wan screams at her Yaya, she runs to Yaya and slaps her. Yaya slaps her right back. “You’ll never learn will you..." she scoffs.

The winds started to pick up and waves started storming onto the beach. Nadech hears a scream from the beach and quickly runs to the beach where he sees a man holding Yaya from behind. Wan had a knife; she was riping the dress Yaya had on into shreds.

“Hey! What are you doing?!” Nadech yells as he makes his way to the three of them.

The man holding Yaya releases her and runs away while Yaya tries grabbing Wan to teach her a lesson but Wan pushes Yaya into the ocean first. Wan runs away before Nadech gets to Yaya. Yaya was fighting the heavy waves coming at her; the waves were stronger than ever and swimming in the dark wasn’t much help, the ocean was sucking her in. After quickly taking off his jacket and black boots with socks, Nadech dives into the ocean; he finally finds her and drags her back to land. Yaya sits on the sand coughing up water. When she finally figures out who had saved her she slaps him across the face. Wan wasn't on her mind anymore, she was back to being hurt from all the lies. She wasn’t only mad at Pope but Nadech too for not telling her the truth. She goes for a second slap but Nadech grabs her hand in time.

“The first time was for Pope, I know…but I’m not letting you hit me a second time.” Instead Yaya bites his hand, the one he uses to hold her. “AH!!”

“That one is for you and both your lies.”

She jerks her hand away from his and stands up ready to leave. She was drenched in watch, the puffiness of the dress disappeared. He tries to follow her to explain the situation but falls back onto the sand, he was starting to feel the pain of a sting on his foot. Yaya turns around after hearing him groan with pain.

“What’s wrong?”

Nadech massages his foot. “My foot is killing me.”

She runs back to him. “Let me take a look.”

Yaya lifts his foot up; she brushed her fingers over his bare foot. “I think you stepped on a sea urchin, I can see the spikes. There are dozens around here. Let me help you stand up.”

"I thought you wouldn't help a person you just slapped and bit."

"I wouldn't but if you have enough toxin from that sea urchin you could die."

Yaya puts her hand around his waist and she wraps his arm around her shoulders. She pulls him up from the sand, Nadech leans onto her for support and their eyes lock. Their noses almost touching.

Back at the palace, Yaya’s mother enters the palace disguising herself as a servant. She walks into the banquet hall, pretending to be cleaning after the guests but she had her eyes on something more precious to her. She sees Princess Ja and the man beside her, he was in traditional wedding attire just like the clothes she remembered from Yasortorn many years ago. Pope was talking to guests and he flashed his smile at everyone even though deep down he felt the pain of marrying someone he didn't love. Yaya's mother stops to stare at Pope, everything around was gone from her eyes she only saw Pope and her eyes glistened with tears.

“Its really you, its really, you've come back to me my son.”

CHAPTER 04: A MOTHER’S LOST

By the time Yaya reached the doorsteps of her house, a house with wood walls and layers upon layers of straws as the roof, Nadech was unconscious. The poison from the sting really brought his temperature down. Yaya’s strength was lagging; he put all his body weight on her, now she was dragging him on the ground into her mother’s bedroom. Her mother would be shocked to find a man in Yaya’s bed if she was to bring Nadech there before consulting with her.

She was panting. “So…heavy.” She swallowed her spit because she was so thirsty. She left Nadech on the floor in front of the bed and went out to drink fresh water collected into a barrel in the kitchen house connected to their bedroom chambers. “Mom!” she called out, hoping her mother will answer from somewhere.

Yaya hurries back to Nadech, she felt his forehead, it was burning, his foot was beginning to swell. Nadech was beginning to breath really hard. Yaya runs out to find Mrs. Simla who was a genius at herbal remedies. Mrs. Simla felt his head and the wet clothes he still had on when he saved Yaya.

“Undress him.”

“U-undress him?”

“His wet clothes is making him cold, we have to get him out of the clothes now.”

After they both lay him on her mother’s bed, Yaya pulls him up into sitting position, he had his head on her shoulder as she reached down to pull his long shirt tucked into his pants out. She pulled his sleeves and took the shirt completely off, his bare chest against her chest. She’s never been this close to any man before. With her hand behind his head as support she lays him down on the pillow like a baby. She looked at his eyes, she really hated him and Pope but right now all that vanished because she was caring for someone’s life.

Mrs. Simla wraps Nadech’s swelled foot after carefully taking out the poison spikes from the sea urchin.

“How is he doing?”

“Good thing the spikes weren’t in deep enough but the toxin was powerful since he stepped on more than one or two spikes.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Simla, I’ll make sure he thanks you in person when he is conscious.”

“Let him rest dear, I put some herbal medicine on his foot, he might not be able to use that foot right away when he wakes up, remind him that.”

Yaya nods. “By the way, have you seen my mother? I haven’t seen her since coming back home.”

Mrs. Simla shook her head.

At the palace, Pope steps outside to take a breath of fresh air. He looks at his wedding ring, rubbing it with his thumb. The amount of humility and worry overcame him; he knows he just ruined the best thing that happened to him. Thoughts of Yaya filled his mind, her sweet laugh, her cheek against his lips when he kissed her before leaving. He grabbed hold of the balcony railing and squeezed the frustration out of him. He had to get her, no matter the cost.

Yaya’s mother took a step closer towards him from behind, she reached her hand out to him. It seemed so far but he was really only a few steps in front of her. Her eyes, watery, this was her chance to tell her son how much she misses him, how she lost the time to raise and care for him. How sorry she felt not being able to give him the feeling of a mother’s warmth. Suddenly Pope turns around, he saw her but he was looking right past her to the man behind her asking him to return to the wedding reception. He walks towards her, she was ready to stop him and say something but wasn’t sure why she couldn’t say a word. He glances at her as he continues to pass her by. Inside, her heart fell, she only knew this was expected of him, he had forgotten about her. Her knees were weak but she fought on to keep her posture. The tears came, out of control, were they tears of sadness? But she was still smiling. These were tears of happiness. Happy her son was well and alive.

Yaya waited for her mother at the front door of their home but she wasn’t thinking about anyone except Pope. She was beginning to miss him and wishes to meet him but knew that was impossible. He was a crown prince, future king of Yasortorn and married to the only person she’s thought of as a sister, Princess Ja. Footsteps approached the house, Yaya looks up to see her mom.

“Mom, where have you been?”

“You’re not asleep?”

“No…I was waiting for you. Where did you go?”

“I…I was out and about…time for my bed though.”

“Wait…can you…sleep with me tonight?”

“What’s the matter?”

“Well, there was a little problem.”

Yaya opens the door to her mother’s room and they both peek inside to see Nadech sound asleep.

“Is he okay now?” her mother whispers.

“Mrs. Simla was a lot of help. She asks that we let him rest for now. I believe his temperature is becoming normal now.”

“Good.”

“Going to bed yet?” Yaya asks.

“Yes, you go ahead, I want to get a few things in my room then I’ll head over.”

“Okay.”

Yaya leaves. Her mother enters the room; she grabs another blanket in the dresser, for it was a chilly night. She tip toes over to Nadech to have a better look at him. While looking at him she thought of Pope, she reached under Nadech’s pillow and slowly pulls out a mini shirt, it was the shirt she made for her son when he was an infant, it was the only item she could bring with her to Min Island when she was banished from Yasortorn. The shirt was made with the finest silk, the most expensive buttons and made with all the love in the world from her. She pressed the shirt to her chest as tears drip pass her squeezed eyes down to her chin. She opens her eyes and saw Nadech’s sleeping face. She closely looks at him again, something was familiar.

The next afternoon, Nadech finally awakens. Nadech felt a chill, the ocean breeze made him shiver. He stretches his arms out, he felt the breezy air pass through his hairy armpits, and he opened his eyes. This was strange he thought, he felt his body, he was naked. Nadech sits up, his bed hair messy, he looks around the room.

The bedroom door opens and Nadech stands between the bedroom door and the sunshine outside, he had the blanket wrapped around his torso, one hand holding it to keep it from falling, the other arm up against one side of the door for support. He was standing on his good, unharmed foot. It was a bad day, most of the village women were outside seated together like a group doing different chores at Yaya's house. Everyone turned to Nadech, they dropped their work and just stared at the stranger. Nadech's face turned bright red but he had to find Yaya the only person he knew in this damn village. She covered her mouth from laughing out loud; she sat hiding behind her mom.

“Where is that girl!” he yelled out. Her name came to his mind. “Yaya!! He yelled.

Her mother stands up to reveal Yaya. Nadech spots her among the women villagers. Yaya gasps. “Sit back down mom! He sees me.” she whines.

“Go take care of him before he loses more than his temper.” her mother smiles.

Yaya unwillingly stands up and makes her way to him. The women around were already gossiping. “A man calling for N’Yaya.” One laughed. “He’s half naked too…” another teased.

The clothes were thrown on the bed by Yaya. “Wear these for now. I just finished washing your clothes this morning, they aren’t dried yet. They might not be as good or high quality as your royal clothes but you’re on Min Island now.”

Nadech picks up the first piece of clothes, he held it up, letting it drop to the ground, it was a sarong. “You...gave me a woman’s dress? Do I look like a woman to you?”

Yaya knew he was mistaken, she knew better. “What dress?” She takes the sarong from his hand. “This is called a sarong, s-a-r-o-n-g. It’s what a lot of men here wear.” She throws it back at him. “Wear it, I can’t afford you pants, I’ll be outside…”

Yaya leaves the bedroom. She waits outside the bedroom door for him. He puts the shirt on then tries figuring out how to put the sarong on. This wasn’t something familiar, he didn’t know how the sarong would stay on, he couldn’t figure out how to tie it or tuck it in. He knocks on the bedroom door; Yaya was leaning against the door.

“I…I need your help here.” He embarrassingly admitted.

Yaya blast through the door again. “What is it this time?”

He was in the sarong just that it wasn’t tied to fit his body. “I-I really don’t understand this dress I mean sarong.”

Yaya chuckles. “Fine, I’ll help you.” She turns him to face her. “All you have to do is level it at the waist wrap it around like this.” She wraps it around his waist until she gets to the front. “Tuck it in here.” She starts to tuck the sarong below his belly button.

Nadech covers his eyes with his hand. “Don’t-tuck-too deep-“

Yaya stops and finally understands why; she stops and looks up at his closed eyes. “Uh…you aren’t wearing anything under this are you?”

Nadech sighs and shakes his head. Immediately she takes her hands away from him stepping as far away as she can. “You’re disgusting! Why aren’t you wearing anything?”

“You told me you were washing my clothes…what was I to wear? Besides, you already brought me a woman’s dress to wear, what will you bring next? A woman’s under garment?!”

“You idiot!! It’s not a woman’s dress, it’s a sarong, men wear them too!"

Yaya stomps out of the room, he scoffs. “Men wear them too...it’s a dress! you think I can’t tell the difference between a woman’s dress.”

“Where are you going, dear?” Yaya’s mother asks when Yaya walks past her.

“Going to buy a new pair of pants.” She said angrily.

SORRY FOR THE LONG HIATUS!! NEXT CHAPTER!
CHAPTER 05: STAY

“Can’t find Nadech?” Pope turns around. “How long has he gone missing?”

“It’s already been a night and a whole day, Your Highness.”

“Find him as soon as possible; we leave Min Island in a week.”

Days have passed and there was no luck of finding Nadech. The guards were sent out to look for him in most villages on Min Island. They haven’t reached Yaya’s village yet, her home was located far from the palace, and their village was the most secluded on the island. Meanwhile Nadech has healed from his injures; Yaya’s even ordered him to help around the village while he lives in their house, however Yaya convinces him about still being very sick.

“How long do I have to drink this?” Nadech takes another sip from the wooden mug; he sticks out his tongue in disgust. The herbal medicine was bitter. He wipes his lips sitting on the bed he has been sleeping on since coming to the village.

“Until you fully recover, you don’t want to return to Yasortorn with any type of disease now do you? Remember to eat the leaves too.”

Nadech returns the empty mug to Yaya after eating the leaves. “But I feel fine.”

“Of course you do, that’s your body lying to you, but you just have a weak immune system, that’s all.” She grins and walks out of the room, leaving him sitting on the bed.

Outside the closed bedroom door, Yaya chuckles to herself. She takes out a few leaves from the mini purse she carried. They were orange jasmine leaves, if eaten, can leave a person’s temperature soaring high. (Refer to Jam Leuy Ruk episode 6.2)

“You’re going to be sick for a very very long time.” Yaya grins. “By tomorrow morning you’ll think you were sick again.”

The next morning Nadech woke up with a burning forehead, the leaves worked. Mrs. Simla came to check on Nadech.

“You’re still very sick.” She took her hand away from his forehead. “I saw you cutting wood yesterday…how can-“

“It’s good exercise for him, don’t you think Mrs. Simla?” Yaya intervened. “I asked him to help around…I guess he hasn’t fully recovered after all…who knew just a little work would give him a fever already.”

“I feel fine though.” Says Nadech. “Mrs. Simla please”
Yaya chuckles. “Of course you don’t feel fine, your head is burning.” She takes Nadech’s hand and places it on his forehead so he’d feel the warmth. Nadech touches all over his face, it was burning but he didn’t feel any sign of being illness within. He didn’t suspect the leaves from yesterday because he knew nothing about herbal medicine.

“I will return in a day or two to check on you, I should get going now, I have work at home.” Mrs. Simla leaves the room.

As soon as Mrs. Simla leaves the house Yaya turns to Nadech. He had his hand on his head still, feeling the heat.

“Why are you just sitting in bed? You have chores to do.”

“Wha-Why?” asked Nadech. “I was just told I was sick.”

Yaya walks towards the bed where Nadech was sitting. “Well, the more you move your body the sooner you’ll be cured, right?” Yaya flips the blanket off him.

“I have to get back to the palace.” Nadech stands up. Yaya pushes him back down onto the bed easily because of foot hasn’t fully healed.

“You can’t…”

“Why?”

“The monsoon season has just begun…the rains have ruined all the paths to the palace…you are too far away from the palace now…give it a few more days. And look at your foot, you can hardly walk.”

“What do you mean? I can walk…I will march back to the palace, watch me!” Nadech stands up, hopping on his good foot. “See? I’m doing fine; all I need is a stick to help-” He loses balance.

As if slow motioned, she sees his eyes wide open and mouthing, ‘AH’

“AH!” Yaya screams after him.

Nadech lands on top of Yaya, his heavier weight crushing her. Her eyes were wide open when he accidently brushed his lips against the tip of her nose while trying to stand up again. Yaya shoves him to the side. Her cheeks were burning when she sat up turning around to face him. Nadech quickly stood up already hopping on his good foot again, playing it cool making it unnoticeable that she was the first girl he’s ever been this close to even though he is known as a ladies man in his country. Yaya finally stands up and faces him; she combs her hair to the side with her hands.

“D-don’t do that again…I’ll slap you next time…for that, I’ll assign you extra chores so you can leave this place faster.” Yaya embarrassed about her red face runs out of the room before he notices.

Mrs. Simla was halfway to her house when she is stopped by Yaya. “Mrs. Simla!!”

She turns around. “Don’t run so fast, you clumsy girl.”

“My mother has been home late for the past few days…do you know what she has been up to?”

“Pim?” Mrs. Simla calls Yaya’s mother by her first name. “I don’t know.” she lied even though she knew Pim got a job at the palace. “Whatever she is up to I’m sure it’s for better. Don’t worry too much. Walk with me?” Mrs. Simla held out her arm and Yaya wraps her arm around Mrs. Simla’s. “I’ve been meaning to ask you, who is this boy you have saved?”

“Ow, he’s from the palace.”

“From the palace? Yaya, we could be facing a big problem if he is from the royal family.”

“He’s not, he’s from Yasortorn.”

Mrs. Simla’s eyes widen with disbelief. “Yasortorn? We will get beheaded if we were to hide some kind of prince!”

“He…he’s a royal guard at the palace.” she lied, knowing she would be in big trouble if she revealed Nadech’s true identity of being Pope’s first cousin.

“How did he end up in our village, it’s so far from the palace.”

Yaya nodded, pretending to agree with Mrs. Simla but really all she thought about was how heavy and long it took to drag Nadech’s unconscious body to their village, she could feel the weak energy she felt that day again reimaging that fateful night.

Back at the palace, Pope decides to postpone his trip back to Yasortorn. He hasn’t found Nadech and he wasn’t planning to leave until he meets Yaya once more before leaving Min Island for good. Princess Ja was overjoyed, already she felt homesick the moment she was told to leave Min Island. This would be her last time to join her people as they celebrate the biggest festival on the island. The ending of the monsoon season meant a celebration of life and fertility for Min Islanders, the ending of the year’s harvesting.

The sun's beaming down on Nadech’s bare back as he sliced each wooden log. His muscular arms were covered in sweat, his long scruffy chin dripping with sweat. He looks up and knew a group of girls were lined up behind the bushes watching him.

“Wow…look at his arms.” Said the first girl.

“And…his chest.” Commented the second girl.

“He’s so dreamy.” The third said.

“He’s so hot…” said the forth girl.

“What are you girls looking at?”

All the girls turned to their left where Yaya was standing playing along with them.

“None of you are old enough to peek at a half-naked man.”

“P’Yaya, and you are?!” They all said at once.

Yaya bites off the top chunk of the long sugarcane stick she was holding and starts chewing.

“Even better, I boss him around to do all my work.” Yaya chuckles.

“Who is he? How can you hide such a jewel?”

“Not fair!!” They all complained.

“He’s a royal guard.” Yaya lied.

“A royal guard…wow.” Said one of the girls.

“This means he won’t be here long.” replies another girl

“Will he come to the festival? I want to ask him to go with me!” The first girl cuts through the bushes and marches towards him but Yaya strikes her head with the sugarcane stick. “OW.”
“Who said you can go meddling around when you have practice for the festival opening ceremony?”

“P’Yaya!”

“Get back here and you all, return to Mrs. Simla for practice!” Yaya raises the sugarcane
stick up high to scare them off. All the girls run in every direction to get away from Yaya.

Yaya returns to the palace to make measurements for the princess before she leaves the island.

“N’Yaya, we haven’t seen each other in a long time, I miss you.” Ja hugs Yaya. Yaya sits Ja on her bed and she kneels down to have her seat on the ground in front of Ja.

“Isn’t it great news…we won’t be going to Yasortorn just yet.”

Yaya looks up at Ja not knowing to be happy or sad. Yaya stared into nothing as she thought only of Pope.

“Yaya…”

“Yes.”

Ja smiles. “I…I have never felt so helpless.”

“Don’t say this, your highness.”

“I mean it…what can I offer Yasortorn when I get there? I’m just a blind girl and Pope he-”

“Never once have I thought of you as someone superior to others, you have always given us
your love and support, believe me when you go to your new home you will spread so much love in the palace of Yasortorn.”

Ja was overjoyed with Yaya words. She reaches out for Yaya’s hand. “You think so?”

Yaya holds onto Ja’s hand, scooting closer to Ja. “Even in a new place, never be helpless because your people will always be with you…right here.” Yaya places their hands on Ja’s heart.

Ja’s smile has never been so big and bright. Yaya closes the big doors to Ja’s bedroom chamber behind her, she looks up and Pope was standing in front of her. He was in leather breeches, his waistcoat over a white dress shirt. His hair combed neatly to the side. It hit Yaya, for the first time she sees him as a prince not a random person. Yaya clears her throat and walks towards him, there was only one way to leave the secluded bed chambers of the crown princess, she had to pass Pope on the way. Yaya didn’t utter one word while passing Pope, she kept her head down, pretending he wasn’t there.

“My name…”

Yaya stops and looks up.

“My full name is Thanawaht Wattanaphuti…nickname Pope…I am the crown prince of Yasortorn. I also…was the most inconsiderate man on this planet, and know this, I played not only with your emotions but mine too.”

Yaya inhales and turns to look at him, her eyes watery. As if his heart dropped, Pope felt her pain when he finally saw the first tear drop from her face. “Today…I accept that you are the future for the kingdom of Yasortorn but not only that…the future for Min Island’s princess Ja Jittapa.” She reminded him. “What you have to say today can never be said and I don’t wish to hear it.”

“I love you Yaya Urassaya.” He blurted out before it was too late.

Yaya walks to him and slaps him. “Don’t ever utter those words, not here, not in any kingdom of yours!”

Pope grabs both her hands and slams them against his chest, bringing her closer to him than ever. “Words unsaid are the most ridiculous, they can make you suffer as much as waiting but I won’t wait, I won’t be quiet. I will not stop showing you how much I love you…the man you knew, you should have never trusted, even I didn’t trust him…but who he is today…he’s certain…he’ll never leave you. Never will his words be kept unsaid.” Pope releases her.

Speechless, Yaya watches him as he turns his back and returns to his duties as a prince.
Yaya returns to the village but she hid away from villagers since now her eyes were bright red as she cried her way back to the village. Sitting on the cliff Yaya couldn’t stop the crying. She was so heartbroken. Nadech walks up behind her as if he knew the area so well. She heard his footsteps and turns around.

“What are you doing here?” she said while wiping away the tears.

“I thought I was the first person to find this place.”

“What are you talking about, this is my place.”

“Well…” He sits next to Yaya but she turns away from him so he wouldn’t see her falling tears. “It’s pretty beautiful up here.”

Yaya couldn’t help it any longer. She starts sniffing away the tears, seconds later she cries. Nadech a little confused turns Yaya around to him, her cries got even louder.

Nadech’s eyes widen. “Just tell me if I did something wrong…I can leave if this is your secret spot…there is really no need to cry over some spot…”

Yaya wanted her mother or someone to embrace, anyone, without any care as to Nadech was she hugs him. Nadech didn’t know how to react to this, was he to put his arms around her too? He didn’t.
