Joining Subs Tutorial

First off you need vdub, vsfilter, subtitle workshop and substation alpha. You can download all these freeware programs here:

Virtual Dub: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub
VSFilter (AKA VobSub Plug-In): http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VSFilter_DirectVobSub
SubStation Alpha:Substation alpha
First off, you have to download virtual dub and the vsfilter, extract it from the zip file using winrar and place it on your desktop or whatever. Do not run the program from winrar because I don't know, I didn't work for me lol.

Once you downloaded both, open the vsfilter file and move the plug-in labeled VSFilter.dll into the virtual dubs plug in folder. This is very important! Don't say i didn't tell you.

After that, start subbing using subtitle workshop. To start subbing, just click the movie tab and import your video. Then click on the file tab and click new subtitles. After you are done subbing save the subtitles in the substation alpha format. Follow darvil's tutorial if you are scratching your head right now: http://www.sarnworld.com/discuzz/index.php?showtopic=404

If you want to change the color, size, and font style of your subs, then use the program Substation Alpha.

Load your previously saved subtitles

Change your font style, size and color by clicking on style override, once satisfied, click ok. I usually make my subtitles in yellow color and 48 size font but some like it bigger.

Once done, save your modified subtitles.

Open Virtual Dub and load your movie file

Click on the video tab, choose filters, click add, choose textsub, open your saved subtitle, and click ok

Re-open the file tab on virtualdub, choose preview output from start and this pop up will show up. Just ignore it and x out of it.

This should be how your subtitles look like with the video.

After all done, open the file tab again, choose SAVE as AVI, your video might be 1.33GB or bigger or smaller depending on your original input video file. This is where I re-open the saved product in windows movie maker, drag it onto the timeline, and click save to my computer. In doing this, windows movie maker will convert and compress your file to wmv, making it much smaller such as 10-whatever mb. You have to be patient while windows movie maker saves your video because depending on the speed of your computer and file size, it might take 5 minutes or it might take 30 minutes. Once completed you will be able to upload it on Youtube or on various servers and share it with the Sarnies. Sounds tough? Don't worry, if at first you don't succeed then just give up haha. J/k, it takes patience but its definitely a great thing to learn.

another program, i recommend for hard subbing files is XVIDEOCONVERTER .. if you have vobsub plugin installed in your computer, then you don't have to worry about dragging the files or resizing the file. just make sure you name BOTH FILES with the same name in SAME FOLDER.

just want to state that you could use xvid/divx codec when compressing so that when you do a 10 minutes length video it doesn't take as much space.

I may be doing something wrong, but VirtualDub doesn't register the textsub filter. I've cut and paste into the plugin folders, restarted the computer, rinsed, repeat, and it doesn't show up. Am I missing something?

ETA:

Nevermind. I'm stupid. Apparently I needed to load the plugin, and I didn't have to option to open all file....

THANKS!

did you compress the video? it's under "video" and then "compression." if you leave it at "uncompressed" or something like that, the video will save as a huge file.

i have the same problem can someone please help ^^
i'm having that problem too

My initial post above.

Update Edit:

I found out how to get the textsubs that many of us were lacking in the virtualdub program, which was graciously and initially given to us by Nai_1_1.

We do have to download the virtualdubmod link given to us by Nai_1_1 in post #6. And then follow the steps as given to you here...

http://forum.videohelp.com/topic272736.html

Follow it until you get to Set Video->Full Processing.

Which is directly under the screencap aid. You don't need to follow the rest because it has nothing to do with what we're doing.

This should help because it worked for me. So if you guys are still looking for that help aid...I just posted. Sorry I'm so late, but I just started subbing.
